Recent studies published in the journal Cancer Science have disproved the common myth that consumption of red meat increases colorectal cancer risk.

I'd hardly call it a myth when the link has been demonstrated in several large cohort groups. All this study seems to do is demonstrate that such a link is not found in the Japanese population. There are still plenty of peer reviewed studies which support such a link.

ETA: Looking at the paper they attribute the difference to the overall lower levels of red-meat consumption in Japan, and suggest that this may be too low to be able to pick up any effects. (Much like you wouldn't pick up the effects of alcohol on the liver if your cohort consisted of people who didn't drink, and those who had a glass of wine a week.)
