Icon220 Housewife inspired Beatles' Lucy

A woman said that a childhood drawing of her by John Lennon's son was the inspiration for the iconic Beatles' song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds."

So she would have been 3 when this happened, and she and Julian remember it?

Hmmm...

IIRC, Lennon said years ago that the song was based on a drawing Julian did. Nobody believed him, but that was what he said.

I've always believed that he was inspired by the drawing and by the drugs. I've never understood why so many seem to feel that if you accept one you cannot accept the other.

The problem is that most people aren't making the distinction between the origins of the song's title and the "meaning" of the song's lyrics. They're two distinctly different issues, and they aren't necessarily related. John took the title from Julian's drawing, but he (and Paul) created the lyrics from other experiences (with the obvious link that the title is itself a part of the lyrics).

People have been claiming nearly forty years now that Paul wrote the song "Martha My Dear" about his dog. Yes, Paul had a sheepdog named Martha at the time, and her name was what suggested the title to him, but the song itself has nothing to do with a dog.

I read somewhere recently that Paul finally admitted a few years ago that the song is indeed about SLD but you're right, the picture itself may have been inspired by a real person.

Default Real-life 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' dies at 46

Lucy O’Donnell was four years old when her classmate at nursery drew a picture of her, surrounded it with stars and took it home to show his parents.

“It’s Lucy in the sky with diamonds,” Julian Lennon told his father, inspiring one of the Beatles’ most enigmatic songs and carving his friend a slice of musical immortality.

Today it emerged that Lucy, now known by her married name Vodden, died last week after suffering for years from lupus, a disease of the immune system. She was 46.

I heard that she had that when I was watching "Yellow Submarine" on youtube. That Julian gave her flowers. How sweet.

Do you think they will play the song at her funeral?
