Icon02 Gang rape of 15-year-old fan by rap group

About 15 or so years ago, I read in a newsletter that is/was critical of rock and rap music that a 15-year-old girl who lived in the upper midwest--in Minnesota or Wisconsin or Michigan won a contest where she and a friend could meet the members of the rap groups LL Cool J. Well, when this girl and her 16-year-old friend met the group, the 15-year-old was gang raped by some of the group's members. From what I recall, the leader of the group had to step out so he wasn't involved in the gang rape.

This event supposedly happened in either Minneapolis, St. Paul, or somewhere in Michigan. I often wonder what became of it.

Any info?

I have never heard of this happening, here in Minnesota or Wisconsin for that matter.

Besides, I wasn't aware that "LL Cool J" was a group, I thought he was a solo performer.

It did happen...I searched NewsBank and an article from August 11, 1989 appeared...

Quote:
Bloomington, Minn. One member of the rap music group L.L. Cool J. and two assistants were jailed yesterday, facing charges of criminal sexual conduct.
Police said the three men assaulted a 15-year-old girl early yesterday, following a concert at the Met Sports Center in Bloomington.

Those arrested include a security guard, an electrical technician and one performer - but not lead singer L.L. Cool J.

Police said the girl and a companion, a 16-year-old girl, had backstage passes and were invited to ride in a limousine to a hotel where the group was staying.

Police said the 16-year-old girl left the room but the other girl was restrained and then attacked. The girl later called police.

The alleged incident happened about 2 a.m.

Authorities said formal charges were expected to be filed later in the day. The group played a one-night stand at the Met Center and was due to perform in Milwaukee last night.
Let me see if I can find some other articles...

A February 5, 1990 article states:

Quote:
A Hennepin County jury Sunday found two members of rap singer LL Cool J's entourage not guilty of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl after a concert last August in Bloomington.

The jury had deliberated since Friday in the case in which two New York City men, singer David James Parker, 26, whose stage name is Busy Bee, and technician Gary Chris Saunders, 27, were charged with first-degree criminal sexual assault.

At a separate trial in December, a jury found LL Cool J's bodyguard, Christopher Tsipouras, 22, of Union, N.J., guilty of raping the girl alone shortly before the others arrived. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
June 23, 1990:

Quote:
In December, the jury convicted Tsiporous, 22, of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and he is serving a 10-year-sentence in Oak Park Heights prison.
That's the most recent article concerning Tsiporous; I guess he served all ten years and got out in 2000.

If you want the full articles, I'll email them to you via NewsBank.

man, I miss the Met Center. It was sooooo cool. I remember my parents taking my brother and me to see the Globetrotters there when we were in elementary school.

By the way, now that you all have done some research, I do sort of remember this happening now, 'course I was only 8 years old at the time.

A few weeks after they tore it down, a buddy and I grabbed some of the remnant debris...don't know why, other than we were North Stars fans (and unlike most former fans, I still consider the Stars one of my favorite teams.)

I always thought the multi-colored seats were the tackiest thing ever, except for the rainbow seats at the Astrodome.

LL Cool J is a person, not a group.

ETA: Obviously it would have been a member of his entourage, but I'm feeling pedantic.
