Automaker Saab announced recently that it would give a free car to any original U.S. Saab owner who drives the car 1 million miles (1,639,300 kilometres) or more. Spurring the challenge were Wisconsin insurance salesman Peter Gilbert and his 1989 Edwardian Gray Saab 900 SPG, whose odometer not long ago clicked over to six zeros.
The above was quoted in this article: http://finance.sympatico.msn.ca/savi...mentid=4934908 The rest of the article goes on to mention various people who have high mileage cars, most not clost to the million mile, but close to half million mile mark. IIRC there was discussion about Saab giving away a car if original owner and made a million miles, but never saw any cites to back it up. The truck I drove for the past 2 years just clicked over 2 million Kilometers (about 1 200 000 miles) a while back, but it has certainly not been trouble free, and does not have the original engine or transmission. |

I originally thought that many miles in the time he owned the Saab were impossible, and it works out to about 56,000 miles a year.
I don't know what is more amazing that he got all those miles out of one engine or that he got 800,000 miles out of the second transmission. I noticed in the article posted about Festivas. I swear I have seen some of those cars where the bodies looked like *$%^# but the cars just kept running. I still have sympathy for American auto workers, but none for their employers who have spent the last 40 years avoiding any serious attempt at building an efficient, safe affordable care. Even the Festiva was built in Mexico or Brazil. Ali "click clack" Infree |

As a member of the Saab Club of North America, I can say that that Saab did go 1,000,000 miles with limited repairs. It is now in the GM museum and the owner did get a new free Saab. Also, this offer is extended to any original owner who can document 1,000,000 miles on their Saab.
