Default Mile Markers in Montana too close?

Yeah, I don't believe it either, but is there any truth to the rumor that Montana tries to slow speeders on long stretches of highway by placing their mile markers at a separation of less than a mile to make drivers think they are going faster than they really are (assuming they occasionally time the distance from one marker to the next), and therefore slow down?
