Whalephant The Dangers of Cracklin' Oat Bran

I heard a rumor about 5 years ago that Kellogg's Cracklin' Oat Bran cereal had been removed from the shelves due to causing some kind of serious health problem (possibly cancer). At the time, I remember thinking that I hadn't seen the cereal in the stores for a long time. This week, I talked to two of my friends who both remembered hearing something similar, but could not remember any details.

The only possible explanation I've found is the use of (trans-fatty) palm oils in the cereal. As far as I know, the cereal is available at most markets.

Does anyone remember being told a story about this supposedly-deadly cereal?

Thanks.

ps. Before posting, I checked Snopes, breakthechain, MeFi, Google, etc. and couldn't find anyhting.

Yum!!! I "accidentally" ate almost the entire box of the stuff that one of my former college roommates had bought one time. I never knew that it was so good to munch on by the handful.

....well, I was hungry and my little 'fridge was empty except for a few cans of coke and a box of baking soda.

Welcome to the boards!

I'd never head anything like that, but I think people like to make up stories to explain apparent disappearances of things like food items.
C'OB is extremely yummy, but can be hard to find in some stores. Sometimes it may not be sold for a while, then restocked when you're not really looking for it, so you miss it.

Another cereal I only see periodically is Kaboom!.

In 2002, Kellogg recalled "a limited number of Kellogg's® Cracklin' Oat Bran® cereal products because they may contain undeclared egg, milk or soybeans...These recalls were initiated after investigation of consumer complaints revealed that products containing the listed allergens were mixed in with products which do not contain these allergens. Subsequent investigation indicates that the problems were caused by a temporary breakdown in the manufacturing facility production and packaging processes which only affected the specific Better If Used Before dates indicated above."
