Comment: True or False:
Jiggs McDonald, NHL Hall of Fame broadcaster speaking in Ontario, says...... "I am truly perplexed that so many of my friends are against another mosque being built in Toronto . I think it should be the goal of every Canadian to be tolerant regardless of their religious beliefs. Thus the mosque should be allowed, in an effort to promote tolerance. That is why I also propose that two nightclubs be opened next door to the mosque thereby promoting tolerance from within the mosque. We could call one of the clubs, which would be gay, "The Turban Cowboy," and the other a topless bar called "You Mecca Me Hot." Next door should be a butcher shop that specializes in pork, and adjacent to that an open-pit barbecue pork restaurant, called " Iraq of Ribs." Across the street there could be a lingerie store called " Victoria Keeps Nothing Secret," with sexy mannequins in the window modelling the goods. Next door to the lingerie shop there would be room for an adult sex toy shop , "Koranal Knowledge," its name in flashing neon lights, and on the other side a liquor store called " Morehammered ." All of this would encourage Muslims to demonstrate the tolerance they demand of us, so their mosque issue would not be a problem for others." Yes, we should promote tolerance, and you can do your part by passing this on . And if you are not laughing or smiling at this point... It is either past your bedtime, or it's midnight at the oasis and time to put your camel to bed!!!! |

The first part is from an interview of Greg Gutfeld by Glenn Beck on Fox News on 10 August 2010. Here's a video. (Note: Flash required.)
The earliest version I've found that matches the OP is this forum post by user "gusnaz10" dated 30 September 2010 (Note: The site is moderately NSFW.) The earliest version I've found that matches the OP and also attributes it to Jiggs McDonald is this forum post dated 6 March 2014. Interestingly, I found this 18 September 2012 forum post with this intro: Quote:
ETA: Found a forum post dated 20 April 2012 that matches the OP. Last edited by BrianB; 14 July 2014 at 10:30 AM. Reason: ETA: Found an erarlier version; corrected the date. |

It kind-of falls apart when the alleged quote mentions the "naming" of a liquor store. In Ontario, all liquors sales are in government operated stores which are all "LCBO" outlets LCBO meaning "Liquor Control Board (of) Ontario". Someone who is intimately involved in hockey, and spent a lot of time in Ontario (home of 2 NHL teams), would know this.

Sounds like a lot of time, money and effort spent just to annoy a few locals. Er, I mean, "promote tolerance." Why don't we just start with the mosque and see where we go from there?

Well, you know, Mr McDonald, as long as you're willing to let a gay bar open next door to a Catholic church or set up a Red Lobster or BBQ pork joint open up next door to a Jewish synagogue. Or letting a new hospital be built or letting a military recruiter set up next to a Jehovah's Witness "Kingdom Hall."
Something tells me those proposals would be viewed by Mr McDonald as "attacks on deeply-held religious beliefs." |

While I can't say for certain I'm pretty sure Mr. McDonald didn't write the OP. For one thing, the first half of the OP is from Greg Gutfeld, not Jiggs McDonald. I suppose Mr. McDonald could be a plagiarist but I could find any evidence of that. In addition, the OP, with the additional stuff not from Greg Gutfeld, was being passed around for about a year and a half before it was attributed to Mr. McDonald.
I also looked to see if he has ever been accused of saying anything against Muslims but nothing turned up. I also looked for news stories about him nothing controversial turned up. This Los Angeles Times article dated 2 December 2008 is typical. And the Wikipedia article about him lists no controversies. Many of the versions of the OP say Mr. McDonald said the words of the OP in Orillia, Ontario. I found a local news site called the Orillia Packet but a search on that site does not produce any stories even remotely like the OP. I did find this editorial dated 17 August 2010 that criticized the proposed Muslim community site near Ground Zero. However, the wording isn't similar at all and the author was Mindelle Jacobs, not Jiggs McDonald. And a search on this Ontario news site also produced no results. Brian |

I believe BamaRainbow was making fun of the OP, not agreeing with it.
Anyway, I'm still looking for information about the OP. I still haven't found anything earlier than Greg Gutfeld's interview and website posts and I still haven't found found something earlier that matches the entire OP closer than the September 2010 forum post I linked to in Post #2.However, I found this forum post dated 27 February 2011 that says the author was Canadian but says nothing about Jiggs McDonald. (All the earlier ones I've found say "I think it should be the goal of every American to be tolerant" and not Canadian.) And in addition to the one I linked to in Post #2 that said the author was a Briton I found this forum post that says the author was Australian and this Stormfront post that claims the author was a New Zealander.
