Devil Jerry Falwell on Billy Graham

Comment: In the wake of Jerry Falwell's death, I came across a quote that
was attributed to him. He was quoted as saying, "Billy Graham is the
chief servant of Satan in America." Although I can find this quote in a
number of sites, none of them suggest a source, context, etc.

Ironically, Billy Graham is one of the very few evangelists I consider to have any personal integrity at all.

In recent years, Rev. Graham has come under fire from conservative Christians for proclaiming that Christians might not be the only ones in heaven. (More info here and here.)

Perhaps that is what Fallwell was talking about.

snapdragonfly, I agree that Graham has always seemed like a person of integrity to me. After this,

Quote:
When asked whether he believes heaven will be closed to good Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus or secular people, though, Graham says: "Those are decisions only the Lord will make. It would be foolish for me to speculate on who will be there and who won't ... I don't want to speculate about all that. I believe the love of God is absolute. He said he gave his son for the whole world, and I think he loves everybody regardless of what label they have."
I can only confirm and increase my respect of him. The very thought, the audacity, that a Christian would say he might not have all the answers and that God gets to decide - wow.

The Bible is clear on this as well:

Quote:
Romans 1:18ff
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
While this may be seen as a condemnation of non-Christians, the theology points out that the nature of God is clear in creation. The further assumption is that it is possible to acknowledge God as God, and not be subject to condemnation and judgement. It's a negative/positive passage.

Common thought, however, is that once someone is told about God, or Christ, then this state is lost. One must then make a decision to acknowledge the judeo-christian truth, or reject it.

As for those who follow other religions, I am with Billy on this - God is the final judge. We (christians) can generalize about other religions as a whole, whether or not their teaching lead to salvation, but we (christians) aren't privy to the state between individuals who follow those religions, and God.

Boy, I remember the good ol' days when Satan used to post here. Didn't know Billy worked for him. I wonder what Satan is doing now. I remember him being banned.....
