Comment: I have seen posts on Facebook from BreakingObama that the White
House is actually a part of a National Park, to be exact President Park.
I read the following on Wikipedia:

President's Park, located in Washington, D.C., encompasses the White
House, a visitor center, Lafayette Square, and The Ellipse. President's
Park was the original name of Lafayette Square. The current President's
Park is administered by the National Park Service.[2]

If this is true, it needs to be closed and all "residents" need to vacate
until the shutdown is over, RIGHT ???

So is this true ?

I know I have read on the National Park site that then Whitehouse in part of the National Park Service. The only problem is that the web site that is already paid for and cost nothing to keep running is down because of budget cuts.

I imagine snopes can attest that it doesn't actually "cost nothing" to keep a web site up and running.

2) The president is shutting down THE OCEAN!!! because it's technically a national park and outrage!!!

Indeed - while the design of the website is paid for, the infrastructure to needed to maintain and host the website (which is almost certainly 100% government run) on their own servers and the employees required to maintain things are not free and would be subject to the furlough.

Yes. And more important, you have to guard against the possibility that the web site/network might be compromised or hacked while all the technical people who have access to it are furloughed. If it's not a vital system, better to take it offline for the duration to protect it.

Comment: The White House has order the WWII Memorial re-barricaded this time
stronger, wired together and at least seven arm guards to prevent more
veterans from getting in. Before the shutdown the WWII war memorial was
open (itís part of the mall sidewalk extension) and not staffed. Someone
is paying for these armed guards. The Interior Dept, which manages the
mall, says they have nothing to do with this, order came directly from the
White House.

Comment: The Obama Administration, which decides what gets closed and what
stays open during a government shutdown, has closed grocery stores on
military bases. But the golf course at Andrews Air Force Base, where Obama
frequently plays, will remain open. I am not surprised.

Is this true?

Comment: just received an email (copy below) that claims Border Patrol
agents have been ordered to stand down instead of pursuing illegal aliens
and drug smugglers. To me, it appears like another anti-Obama lie.

---------------------------

I’d say this is unbelievable but like most of you, I put litte past
this president at this point. His agenda has been weakening this nation
from the beginning and he will do as much damage as he can before he
leaves office:

The National Border Patrol Council has come forward to reveal to
the American public once again management practices that could be risking
the lives of Americans — and the lives of illegal immigrants.

Shawn Moran, Vice President of the National Border Patrol Council,
claimed that Border Patrol management has begun the practice of ordering Border Patrol Agents to
stand down and cease pursuing drug smugglers, human smugglers and
traffickers, and illegal aliens. He also warned it could lead to illegal
aliens entering the country from nations associated with terrorism.

“It doesn’t matter whether it’s drugs, bodies, or how large the
group is, our agents are being ordered to stand down by Border Patrol
management,” said Moran. “I have received reports from our agents in every
single sector from San Diego to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas that they
are receiving these orders.”

Comment: a right wing friend posted this:
www.capitalisminstitute.org/obama-ends-park/
and I would like to be able to rebut it. The article claims that Obama
sent federal agents to shut down a park that receives no federal funding.
It's from a right wing publication that is definitely slanted...

Comment:
I heard the guy that runs the elevator for the Senate, who makes 210,000
bucks a year, was told not to work, and the senators/senators helpers were
complaining because they didn't know how to use the elevator!

I keep seeing people talking about senate elevator operators making
210,000 a year.

But does this mean that there is no stretch of road anywhere in the USA that is designed to be used as an airstrip if need be?

AFAIK the government shutdown hasn't affected this road.

I saw that plane being towed back to the airport along a major road before I saw the news story. I was quite baffled.

If I understand correctly, the "shutdown" means the government can't spend any money. Since it doesn't actually cost anything to allow people to drive on a highway, there's no reason to close them. I imagine some maintenance/construction projects might be on hold, though. On the other hand, isn't the actual work on Interstate highways done by the states, and the federal government just provides the funding to the states? So if the states can come up with another funding source for roadwork I imagine there's no reason they can't still do it.

The White House is a bit of a unique case in that it's both a National Monument and tourist attraction, and the President's private residence / offices. I would expect the parts that are usually open to the public to be closed. I imagine the President and at least some of his staff are considered "essential" and therefore can continue to work from their government offices which happen to be in the White House, and as an essential worker the President can continue using his government owned accommodations.
