Icon402 O.J. as the Terminator

Comment: On the IMDB trivia page for the 1984 film The Terminator, it
states the following:

"O.J. Simpson was considered for the role of the Terminator, but the
producers feared he was "too nice" to be taken seriously as a cold-blooded
killer."

This sounds like the punchline to a joke, so I was wondering if it was
actually true or if it was just a joke that someone got added to the IMDB
page (since it is all user-submitted, even though it supposedly has to go
through some sort of screening process first). Have you heard of this
before? Thank you.

The screening process basically consists if making sure that nobody has posted it yet or if it applies to the right movie.

From page 4 of the liner notes of The Terminator: Special Edition DVD:

Quote:
The role of the Terminator was originally going to be portrayed by O. J. Simpson. But, according to (James) Cameron in 1984, "people wouldn't have believed a nice guy like O. J. playing the part of a ruthless killer."
Scharzenegger was originally case to play the part of Kyle Reese in the film.

If that's the case, somebody is certainly not doing their job. I don't know how many times I've seen the same exact fact or quote twice in a row or a few entries away. I could understand if one was at the top of the page and one was at the bottom, but that's not what I'm seeing.

Back OT, I thought it was a joke, too, the first time I heard it. But back then, he wasn't the O.J. we all know and (don't) love today.

My mum went to school with a lady who is listed on IMDB because she had a bit part in a TV series. (She's a singer mainly). But IMDB has her birthyear out by over twenty years, and birth place out by 12,000 miles.

Maybe it was about someone with the same name?

No, it correctly lists several of her achievments, but gets it totally wrong on birth date and place. More likely that the person who added these details had her confused with someone else.

Australia Movie Minutiae: The Terminator (1984)

It's hard to imagine anyone else but Arnold Schwarzenegger as The Terminator, delivering his trademark line "I'll be back"
Quote:
OJ Simpson was also considered for the role, but Cameron thought no-one would believe "such a nice guy could be a ruthless killer". (This sounds like a bad joke, but some research on Snopes shows that it apparently is on the level).

I would be careful with IMDB trivia section as well. My cousin told me that one of the movie mistakes listed from Wild Wild West was that Jim West was supposed to be in chains.

Certainly glad that the casting ended up the way it did. Hard to even imagine it the other way. And that means that Arnold would have been killed in the first movie.
