Got a question - Trent Reznor of NIN states that he took the front door of the Cielo Drive house when they were going to demolish it. Some claim it is the original door that had the word 'pig' written in Sharon Tate's blood. But, I also heard that that is hogwash (no pun intended) since it would have been bagged and tagged as evidence. Could someone who is familiar with police proceedure clarify if they could?

I seriously doubt that the entire door would have been taken as evidence. Because:
1. It would make it exceedingly difficult to secure the rest of the crime scene if the front door were missing. 2. They could take pictures and samples without having to remove the door. 3. It might be important to be able to come back and look at small details that would be lost if the door were removed. 4. There would be little benefit from having the entire door, but much inconvenience, such as the issues above, plus secure storage of the door in evidence. That's all I can think of. But I highly doubt that the door would have been taken by police. (Has your friend been watching a lot of CSI lately?) erwins

Well - that to me is not evidence that it is the original bloodied door - I find it hard to believe someone back when the murders were being investigated didn't just outright destroy the door.

A friend of mine was on the jury of a murder trial. Part of the evidence was a bloodstain on a wall. They cut the portion of the wall out that had the stain (drywall) and submitted that piece as evidence. Just saying it's conceiveable they'd just cut out part of the door if necessary.

Plus Reznor vehemintaly denies the fact that he knew it was the Tate's house when he bought it.

searching for "Trent Reznor" "Charles Manson" door gives a number of hits repeating this story, tho the closest to a reliable cite I've found so far is the Rolling Stone article. I don't see any particular reason to disbelieve the story to be honest.
