Default V.C. Andrews Gods of Green Mountain

I read this recently, because I was out of books to read and it was on my sister's Kindle when she gave it to me.
Have you ever heard the line about how people will happily swallow a big lie but choke on a little fib? I was in that position with this book. It starts out on a planet that is positioned between two suns, so that the poles are always frozen and the equator is always a burning desert. That is the "little fib" I can't believe. Plant people, yes. A planet that doesn't orbit but hangs fixed in one position in the sky, no. The ending is quite cheesy as well. Anyone else read it?

Never heard of it, but I remember trying a few V.C. Andrews novels that my high school library had and finding all of them to be terrible. Couldn't tell you the names or plots of any of them anymore, but I do remember them all being silly and contrived.

Normally she writes bad tragedy novels that are kind of incest-porn. Not well written particularly, and all pretty much the same. I wouldn't have even started this one, but it was there. I actually made it through the whole book ( surprised me, too). She should have stuck with the incest, cause sci-fi was clearly NOT her forte.

Accoring to Wikipedia, GoGM was her first book, and it remained unpublished in her lifetime. So she possibly agreed with you.

Most of the work published under her name was written by others after her death, cashing in on the popularity of her name in the incest-porn market I suppose. They are sort of dark versions of Harlequin romances in my opinion.

I'm fairly certain she actually wrote Flowers in the Attic, which developed into a whole series about the incestuous relationships in that family. In the original story, the incest made sense, because it was about children basically going through puberty and into young adulthood locked in an attic with no one but their siblings for company. But, a lot of what went on in the rest of the series seemed to be contrived to appeal to people who liked the "perversion" of the original.

I was really into these books in middle school. I guess I liked the flowery depictions of sex, along with the darker themes. I also read a lot of horror and fantasy novels which often have the same combination.

I read everything religiously up to about halfway through the "Heaven" series, when it finally occurred to me these books were sort of rehashing the same themes over and over. It was around that time I also learned that the original author had been dead for some time and these newly published books were ghostwritten.

Eta: re-reading the list at her Wikipedia page, it was actually the "Dawn" series I only got halfway through. I read all of Heaven's (listed as the Casteel saga there). I also remember having read My Sweet Audrina.
