Well, it seems like the main ones getting mad are the Japanese, Disney... Ja Nai. Yep. I agree. Doraemon has Toei Movie Land to wander in. Why does he need to go to a fake Disneyworld in Beijing.

Disney in Japan is a kind of religion, depsite the fact that several home-grown entertainment franchises are at least as popular. So I can see why it upsets the loyal followers. However, I think they're being a little hard on this Chinese park. If you take away the blatant ripoff characters, the park itself looks a lot like parks built here in the 1960's. The standard decoration was the castle. If Neuschwanstein hadn't been built long before Disney's version, I could see these parks getting in trouble too. These days most of the Japanese parks that were built "in homage" to Disney have become old and rundown and gone out of business. (If a new one popped up now, I can imagine that it would at least raise a few eyebrows, if not generate a lawsuit.)

It is a little frustrating, though, to hear and see Chinese entertainment ripoffs sold as originals. Many many US and European pop songs have been recorded in Chinese and marketed as originals, not as translations. It doesn't surprise me one bit that the same has been done with Disney.

Same thing still happens in Korea. I can't count how many Japanese pop songs I have heard on Korean radio, being sung in Korean, without any credit to the original. On very rare occasions I have seen a couple of songs noted as being covers or translations of a Japanese song. But they are usually passed off as original.

Korea also has its share of Disney rip-off amusement parks. The first time I went to Lotte World in Seoul (Recently closed for renovation after someone died and it failed a safety inspection) I was amazed at how much it ripped off Disney Land. From the character parade, to the magic castle, it was a pretty cheap imitation. As at Disney Land, they launch fireworks from the top of the castle at the end of the night. However, either because they let people get real close to the castle when they're shooting them or because they just shoot them too low, you end up getting rained on by burning embers. If you try to look up at the fireworks, you get nice hot pieces of paper falling into your eyes. And the place reeks after they shoot them.

Yeah, doesn't quite have the same "magic" of Disney.

It can't be a rip-off as long as the "Donardu ji Dakku" speaks along the line of "America is evil". Since reald Donald would have never done that, it's clearly a rip-off.
