Comment: This unsubstantiated "fact" has been circulating for quite a
while: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How did camel's hair brushes get their name? Camel's-hair brushes are not made of camel's hair. They were invented by a man named Mr. Camel. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OK, then, who is or was the mysterious "Mr. Camel"??? No matter how I search in Google, All-The-Web (from which I've been getting better results of late) and other search engines, the only references I've been able to find are reworded versions of that same allegation: camel's hair (or camel hair) brushes are made of other animals' hair (most often squirrel) and WERE INVENTED BY A 'MR. CAMEL', plus a plethora of hits for the allegation included in the "Easiest Quiz in the World" and variants, which may explain the wide distribution (hits on) the name "Mr. Camel". Persistent as I am, I kept searching and came across a reference that maintains that the camel's-hair brush was invented in 250 B.C. by the Chinese savant Mêng T'ien, an innovation that revolutionized the writing of Chinese characters, and more.
