Crash More on the Volkswagen/Nazi connection

Comment: I recently heard that the Volkswagen logo when spun at high speed
becomes a swastika (almost like a hologram). Since the logo appears on all
the hubcaps (wheel coverings) I have tried a number of times with the help
of friends to see if this is true. The logo does seem to become a rotating
swastika at about 60 kmph (approx 25 mph.) Since our experiment was not
done scientifically, please can you follow this up.

A demonstration of a spinning the VW logo.

Link: YouTube

At a certain RPM an image does form which you could say looks like a swastika, but if you think about it both the VW logo and the swastika are rather simple designs made up of straight lines and right angles, so its not odd to think that toying with one image might make it resemble the other.

Even with keeping an eyeout for a swastika, I can't say I saw anything that looked like one.

Same here--I've watched it a few times and I haven't been able to see anything that even remotely looked like a swastika. One of the comments on the video says it's around the 15 second mark, but I can't see it.

I think this rumour started because of Volkswagen's long cooperation with the nazis, but the use of hidden symbols that can only be seen when an imaginative mind squints the right way is seldom used in real life.

Straight lines...Yes, but I see no right angles in the letters V or W.

I'm just saying.......

From the youtube video, at a couple of points it does seem to resemble a spinning triskelion, but not a swastika.

Not to mention that to do this "scientifically" (hey, that's what the writer requested), one would need to spin a variety of car logos to see if the incidence of swastika sighting on VW's s significantly higher than on other cars. Alternate analysis plans could be used, such as evaluating the speceficity of the swastika sighting for VW, etc.

One problem with the video - the frame rate could alter the perception of the logo as it spins. Just like how car wheels sometimes look like they're spinning backwards on television.

I supposed if you're looking for a swastika, you might see one.

Feh. I don't see one. People see what they want to see, I think.

That's because you just don't want to see it and are putting a blind eye to it.

Right. You caught me putting on my jackboots and polishing my Luger.

That's a pretty bold statement to accuse me of, when you have no idea who I am, what my background or ethnicity is, or anything else. As for a blind eye, I call BS. I watched the video at least 5 times, not once seeing it. I've had friends watch it, none of them see it either. Is it a case of me putting a blind eye to it, or a case of YOU seeing what you want, are expecting to see, or are influenced to see? BTW, nothing wrong with my vision, either, I've got 20/20, fly a plane, ride motorcycles, and drive over 100,000 miles a year for work. Read the preceding comments, you'll see the majority of posters don't see it either. Are we ALL choosing not to see it?

May I then accuse you of having a diminished sense of humor together with a disability to recognize wordplay?

I would like to interrupt this thread to point out that 60kph is nowhere near 25mph. It's closer to 40mph.

ETA: In fact it's 37.28.

I don't see anything either. Maybe towards the end when it was slowing down if I squinted my eyes and turned my head just right

I think that any resemblance is coincidence.

JD65, your use of bold text to indicate a direct quote looks a bit ambiguous. It would be clearer if you'd indicate direct quotes either using the quote UBB tags or by just clicking the Quote button on the post you're quoting.

Thanks, Bob "BoKu" K.
