Every so often someone posts on Facebook a quote attributed to Dr Seuss that says:
'We’re all a little weird. And life is weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutual weirdness and call it love.' Even Amazon sell posters with this quote. When trying to search for the origin of it - the actual text it came from or some source to cite - I stumbled across goodreads.com which has this version attributed to author Robert Fulgham: 'We’re all a little weird. And life is weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness—and call it love—true love.' There is no contact information provided on Fulgham's website and goodreads.com also has no attribution for the quote. Anyone out there know the true source of this quote and where it came from? Thanks! |

My Spidey sense says that quote sounds too direct, I want to say, for Dr. Suess at least as far as his books go. With the possible exception of Oh The Places You'll Go, his books were never that up front about the message that they were trying to convey.
Now that doesn't rule out that he could have said it in public, that's possible and I haven't done research on it. I just don't suspect it was in any of his books. Robert Fulgham is possible, it does sound like something from "All I Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten or one of his other books. But those are just guesses. |

Earliest reference I could find in a book search was Fulgham's 1997 book True Love: Stories Told to and by Robert Fulgham. (Maybe it has an attribution in the book. I couldn't get that yet.)

Comment: I've seen this quote, they last line is slightly different. I've
seen it credited to two different people. I'm hoping you can help clear up who really said it and what the actual quote is. “We’re all a little weird. And life is weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness—and call it love—true love.” ― Robert Fulghum "We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love." I used search inside this book at Amazon.com to verify that it is in Robert Fulgham's book True Love. And it appears to be in one of his original stories, in other words, not quoted from elsewhere.
