Don't male ballet dancers wear a dance belt exactly to avoid this and (perhaps more importantly) keep the jewels safely out of the way of the legs?

This has got to be shopped, don't you think? Yes, they wear belts, and I don't believe they would either deliberately or accidentally forget to wear one. That would be like forgetting to put on your ballet slippers or something...in professional productions I just can't see that happening, and discipline is such an ingrained and intrinsic part of ballet that it would be very unusual for a dancer to be that sloppy so as to forget to wear such a vital peice of their costume. I mean, really.

also - not being a guy and having such knowledge of the equipment, but if a guy is doing extremely physically demanding, intense, highly focused work (and few things are more physically demanding in strength, precision, balance, endurance, etc than being the male partner in a pax de deaux) isn't an erection unlikely to occur? The mind is on the work and the blood is in the muscles...just wondering?

As a guy I can say that you can get an erection at any time, sometimes even in the middle of doing something unrelated that requires a lot of focus. As for the pic I say it's probably photoshoped. If for no other reason than the fact that under tight fabric it wouldn't just stick straight out like that.

To me, his penis looks too high up on his torso, as if it's protruding from his pubic bone instead of from below it.

I agree with fritz and Katness; the penis is too high up, and standing too straight out. No way are those ballet tights that loose and stretchy. Also, like der induktionator said, if I were a guy I would want to wear a cup just in case of accident.

Another argument for photoshop is the "panty line" you can see across his hip. Even the most stretchy of underwear would further restrain him, even if the tights were somehow really that loose.

Can someone else please hurry up and state the obvious? I'm much too shy.

Well I meant focused on something OTHER than sex, obviously. : I don't blame you for taking advantage of that one though.

It would be more like doing an aerobic/weight lifting routine, only having to do it in perfect sequence to a particular piece of music with every gesture of the body including the hands be completely graceful and full of expression at all times, and with a pleasant, photogenic smile for the duration, also. Though maybe they can still get one in that case. I wouldn't know from experience.

Those tights are thick and very very snug. Lots of lycra. I don't think even really cheap loose panty hose would do that, either, much less those extremely stout dance tights.

Reminds me of a quip I heard from my mum "Why do male ballet dancers have 'bulges'? It's so the ballerinas have something to stand on."

I thought you said it was something other than sex.

Well it kind of is in the movies. Real Life? Not so much.

I can't be the only person who first thought was this.

I should say so. On top of all that, as sexy as ballerina costumes are, I imagine it's all part of the job for male dancers and they're used to it.

Is a ballet leotard that sheer? That looks more like ballet pantyhose.

I know from experience that the leotard women in figure skating wear is in now way, shape or form see through (despite the skin tone colour).

I confess to knowing very little about ballet.

To put it delicately: I've been with a man who was wearing sheer, cheap-o drugstore pantyhose who got an erection. Even the cheap pantyhose kept the erection constricted; it did not stand out like that. I doubt professional ballet hose would allow that kind of movement.

If this were real, I'd expect tenting above and below. This seems to just be below. It's a shoop.

Wasn't there a scene like that in a Mel Brooks movie?

(this said, I also vote photo-shopped, and not very well at that).

... though I remember attending a show when I was at high school, and seeing an unfortunate mime in the same predicament.
