Default Commercials you hate

There is this commercial for some cellular phone plan where a man finds his wife in their greenhouse and tells her he has signed a great deal for unlimited text and calls for the whole family. His wife chews him out for spending so much money ending with saying that her mom was right she should have married someone else.

Its ugly and abusive and just sad. I think the company was going for funny which makes it worse.

She says she should have married John Clarke, and I always I think she's talking about the Rainbow Six guy. I know it's without the "E", but it still strikes me as funny

the U-Verse commercial where the couple is picking which kid gets the last record on the DVR and they pick their favorite kid to see who gets it. I don't know who thought that would make a good commercial but they need to be found and beaten repeatedly over the head with a brick. I would never get U verse just based on that horrible commercial.

Between them and the toolbags who advertise Direct TV, I'm beginning to wonder what the heck's wrong with television providers. Do they not actually watch television?

What a stupid commercial. What is it that you "do" because this is LA? Drive a Chrysler? Well, this is New York, and that's what we do too. In fact, we have the Chrysler Building, so NFBSK you. You don't hear us bragging about it.

And while I'm at it, does that line seem vaguely threatening to anyone else? Why is he copping an attitude with the audience? I haven't done anything to him, I don't deserve to be stared down.

This does not make me want to buy a car, but it does make me want to buy a taser.

This very one came to mind when I saw the thread title. Our initial response was a mutual, scoffed "wow...just wow."

I don’t think they care. Honestly. They know that most people will go with either the monopoly cable provider because it’s the default, or you will go with a satellite provider because you hate the cable provider or you have no choice (for rural customers). There is so little actual competition that their goal is for brand awareness and to (hopefully) get a laugh.

Not really a recent commercial... in fact it's really, really old. But I just have to wonder who thought it was good idea to make a commercial consisting of insulting your target audience.

Apparently it was supposed to be a satirical view of how video game advertising was back in the 1990s [can't really beat Romero's "Suck it Down,"] but there is such a thing as bad satire, and it didn't really help that the console itself wasn't that great with only 20 titles, and I'm pretty sure the average human has a lot more than 20 brain cells.

I have a very vague recollection of that commercial from when it was new. And I thought it was a pretty cool device (back then), but I do remember being annoyed with how it basically spent 30 seconds insulting people it was trying to sell to. The satire was lost on me, but then, maybe I was young and/or unaware of the subject it was supposed to be satirizing.

The way many TV ads depict male-female, and especially husband-wife, relationships, really bothers me. Like that hideous "what would you do for a Klondike?" ad where the guy's amazing feat is that he listens to his wife talk about their mutual friends for a few seconds.

The new Adidas commercial with Snoop Dogg (or whatever his name is now) and the like, makes me laugh because after showing kids skateboarding, wearing athletic shoes, dressing in similar outfits, and singing run-of-the-mill hip hop songs, the ad proclaims, "We are all originals."

Just saw this ad for the first time today. (chillas and I rarely watch live tv anymore.) I was disgusted by it.

Thanks to the Yoplait and Activia commercials, we have literally stopped buying their yogurt altogether. I'm so insulted by their ads, I won't buy their product anymore. I'm not a stupid woman who mistakes yogurt for real key lime pie!

Nor would I humiliate and mock my husband for eating my yogurt!

I'd tease him for it, but that's about it. And make him buy me more!

Anything with the Aflac duck generally annoys me, but the one with the break dancing battle with the pigeon is by far the worst. In addition to the annoying duck, there's the pigeon, then the stupid song that will now be stuck in my head for the next hour because as I was typing this the damn commercial came on the telly.

I find the ITT Tech commercials super annoying, but the one I saw tonight took the cake.

It seemed normal enough -- a man saying how his education was his best investment and that he loved his job, etc. So far so good. But he also said something like "In this economy, a lot of people have lost there jobs. But I haven't lost mine, and I think it's because I have a degree and my employer values me."

Given how many people have lost their jobs, regardless of education or "value," this seems like a really awful thing to say.

As I have a degree and was let go from the job in my field two years ago I can say this statement is completely stupid. Having a degree does not mean you won't lose your job.

Being deployed again has reminded me just how breathtakingly awful AFRTS commercials are. Imagine the worst, most badly made local business commercial you've ever seen combined with the dumbest, most condescending PSA you've ever seen. Now imagine it taking itself completely seriously. Now imagine seeing it 50 times a day.

The Arby's ad, where the man licks sauce off of a friend's face with a chameleon tongue, squiggs me out to no end. Leave your audience with a twinge of nausea? What a great way to sell sandwiches!

Bang Head

There is a radio ad for a charity called Cars for Kids, complete with stupid song that makes me want to run a hot poker through my ears.

Whoops, that's Kars for Kids, which IMO makes it even worse--I hate purposely misspelled words.
