I couldn't even begin to figure out where I should stick this thread - feel free to move as necessary.
A friend of mine intends on moving to Australia. Apparently, someone told him that the Australian government will pay young fertile American men to move there. Why? Not sure. However, he's quite insistent on it. I told him I'd ask everyone here about it. So - Anyone?

According to Australian Department of Immigration it doesn't seem so. In fact, they have concise rules, listed on the aforementioned page.

It must be a way to maintain some kind of balance after Satan's Hobbit had a vasectomy.

YOMANK Black Roses your friend is talking utter rubbish. It's very amusing though. Although come to think of it the government does pay you a sum of money when you have a child now. Maybe that is what he was told about? I'm not sure what the current amount is but it was $3000 AU when they first brought out the idea a couple of years ago. I think that the amount has increased now. |

Isn't fertility plummeting all over the Westernised world? Having no desire for progeny myself, and seeing a global population/migration crisis in decades to come I don't give a flip, but it must be alarming in some departments that men are fast turning into, well, jaffas

Troberg,
Actually we got $1200AU when Callan was born 3 years ago, just after the "baby money" first came in. We got $4000 for Sophie a year and a half ago, and MrsHobbit tells me it's $5000 now, increasing to $6000 next financial year. If my vas deferens was intact, I could have eventually become a millionaire, and enjoyed every second of earning it. The only flaw in my plan is the cost of raising those kids afterward. black roses19, to quote from a famous Aussie movie; "Tell him he's dreaming" ETA: Jaffas???

According to recent research, the sperm count of Belgian males has actually increased in the last decennium or so. Possibly because of less environmental pollution.
Anyway, a premium for fertile women would make much more sense. |

I have read that some fertility clinics are paying for males to come to Australia for holidays after sperm donation rates declined greatly recently. The laws changed to mean that children produced as a result of sperm donation can now contact the donor after they turn 18. As a result, there are fewer donors. Some people are paying for overseas donors. Not sure how you would get onto the program though. This is nothing to do with the government, and nothing to do with living here permanently though.
