Shout The Camel's Nose

Comment: Please post information about this email that I received:

THE CAMEL'S NOSE IS OFFICIALLY IN THE TENT IN MICHIGAN !!!

Muslim men are allowed to have as many as 4 wives. Many Muslims have
immigrated into the U.S. And brought their 2-3-or 4 wives with them, but
the U.S. Does not allow multi marriages, so the man lists one wife as his,
and signs the other 2 or 3 up as extended family on welfare and other free
Government programs!

Michigan has the highest population of Muslims in the Unites States. When
President Obama took office the United States paid several millions of
dollars to have a large number of Palestinians, (All Muslim), immigrated
here from Palestine . Why? I have no idea, do you! We don't pay for other
persons to immigrate here, and I'm sure that some of those Muslims moved
into Michigan with the large current number of Muslims already established
there.

So now in Michigan when you call the Public Assistance office you are told
to "Press 1 for English. Press 2 for Spanish, or Press 3 for Arabic"!
Every time you add a new language to an American program it requires an
additional number of persons fluent in that language to process those
persons who refuse to learn English in order to live here at an additional
cost to the taxpayer! Why are we even allowing persons to immigrate here
who cannot provide for themselves, and putting them in our welfare system?

Press 3 for Arabic ..
This is quite alarming!!! This seems to have happened clandestinely, for,
as far as I know, no public announcement, or opportunity to vote on this
was offered to the American people. They're just adopting an official
stance, and very likely using tax-payer money for it, in various
capacities, without public knowledge or approval.

The following link takes you into the State of Michigan Public Assistance
page, (as in Food Stamps etc). You won't have to scroll far before you see
the assistance-letters options for...(get this).....English, Spanish, and
ARABIC !!!

When did the ARABIC option sneak into our culture? Will we soon have to
listen to our governmental offices, stores, and other venues offer us the
option of "pressing 3 for ARABIC?"

Check it out for yourself.

http://www.michigan.gov/dhs/0,1607,7...527---,00.html

Please inform every red-blooded American you know, that this is happening.
It is outrageous! The camel's nose is literally now OFFICIALLY under the
tent! YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK!!!

I agree. It is really alarming that we allow everyone who lives here access to government services where they live! It is fully impossibly that a citizen who was born overseas may feel more comfortable and have an easier time communicating in a language other than english.

Only immediate family, including spouses, can be sponsored for immigration purposes.

Don't spoil our fear-mongering with your pesky facts. I mean, facts schmacts. You can use those to prove anything even remotely true.

I thought this was going to be about a needle in a camel's nose, or something.

It's a reference to an Arabic fable.
http://camelphotos.com/tales_nose.html

Short version: the man allows the camel to stuck its nose under the tent out of compassion and soon discovers that the camel has taken over the whole tent and left the man out in the cold.

Assuming (big assumption I know) that government was paying for Muslim Palestinians to immigrate to the US, they could have also changed the rules to include non-immediate family or non-family who lived with the head immigrant.

I'm wondering if there is a trace of truth to that part. Could the US have had some program where immigration rules for Palestinians were eased to try to fix the Israel issue?

I wonder what percentage of people's ancestors were immigrants who did not learn (or at least become proficient to be comfortable over the phone) English right away?

My dad came here from Argentina with his family when he was a teenager. He wanted to be in the air force and is smart as a whip when it comes to languages so he managed to learn English fairly quickly but (and did join the air force, BTW) but so far as I know (never met them, they died when he was in his twenties) his parents never learned anything beyond passable English at best.

But then it probably would have been better if they'd stayed in Argentina, I mean not only didn't they speak English but they spoke Spanish, that's the worst kind of not-English! (Ok actually they probably spoke both Spanish and Italian as they fled Italy during the run-up of World War II, but then Italian is probably like the Spanish of Europe).

No, it's a misunderstanding of this item:

Actually, Spanish is the Spanish of Europe...

And the worst not-German language here is Turkish, with Arabic a close runner-up. But imagine the problems the British and French have - with people from as far as Africa or Asia immigrating who already know the language so you can't identify them as forreners!!!

HA! Proof that those ebil Muslims are taking over. First it's their fancy schmancy fables. Next it will be short stories and novels. Before you know it they'll take over the teevee and we'll all have to learn Arabic if we want to watch Survivor:Islamobad.

Next up: we'll have to adopt their numbering system! Then we'll wish it said "For Arabic, press III."

But Chloe, wait. Aren't our numbers actually already based upon the Arabic system, rather than the Roman system, which is: I, II, III, etc,?

See, they've been at this for quite a while!

Beach, I think Chloe was being ironic.

This NPR story offers an interesting perspective on German immigrants' embrace of English, or lack thereof, in the midwest in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Quote:
"A number of big cities introduced German into their public school programs," says Walter Kamphoefner, a historian at Texas A&M University. Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Cleveland and other cities "had what we now call two-way immersion programs: school taught half in German, half in English," Kamphoefner says. That tradition continued "all the way down to World War I."

In other words, there were taxpayer-funded bilingual public schools in the U.S. a century ago.

How did that happen? "The simplest explanation is ethnic politics, ethnic lobbying," Kamphoefner says, "especially just after the Civil War, when the German vote was kind of up for grabs."

Not that the notion wasn't contentious. In 1889, Wisconsin and Illinois passed laws mandating that schools teach only in English. But Kamphoefner says the ethnic backlash was strong, and the laws were soon repealed. He has come across evidence that as late as 1917, a German version of the "Star Spangled Banner" was still being sung in public schools in Indianapolis.
