More than any other American sport, baseball has an established historical footprint, and among its significant early events is the fixing of the 1919 World Series by gamblers and the Chicago White Sox, a team forever labeled the Black Sox. It is the only recognized gambling scandal to tarnish a World Series.
In recent weeks, however, there has been new scrutiny of the previous year’s championship and questions about the legitimacy of the outcome: the Boston Red Sox defeated the Chicago Cubs. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/15/sp...ld-series.html |

There's no evidence, but it coulda happened?
Wow. The stigma of not winning a World Series since 1908 is *really* bugging the Cubs fans, isn't it? ~Psihala |

The motivation of the Cubs players, expecting there to be no baseball the next year, seems worthy to consider. Are there any signs of these players buying anything beyond their expected income?
If there is a curse on the Cubs, and there isn't, this would be a better reason for it. Didn't the Cubs lose to Ruth again in the World Series? Not as a Red Sox pitcher, but as a Yankee hitter? Ali |
