Volvo pays funeral expenses

Comment: A friend told me that Volvo will pay for the funeral expenses of
anyone who owns one and dies in an accident involving one of their cars. I
know that Volvo is legendary for the safety features and longevity of
their vehicles - I can attest to that as a former owner. This seemed a bit
far-fetched, though. Is it true?

No, it's not true, and it would be a very un-Swedish way to do business. Also, especially if you want to market a car as safe, you don't want to get customers thinking about dying. Volvo aren't even that much safer than any other car in its weight class.

Heck, I have a damaged thumb nail that proofs that Volvos aren't exactly safe, it got stuck in a Volvo door.

My advice, if you are going to get a Volvo for safety, get one like mine. It will handle collisions with just about every other ordinary car with just minor scratches. It's even for sale, if anyone is interested.

I doubt that anyone would advertise their products that way either - given that it might imply certain things about it's safety that they cannot reasonably guarantee. I don't know how common civil suits are in Sweden, but my guess that Volvo's attorneys aren't going to let their company attract more suits against them.

In other words, no lawyer who is worth their salt would allow for such an advertising program nor would any marketing department think that this would be a good campaign anywhere...

Troberg, what is the tall roofed structure in image IMG_1995.JPG? I am completely stumped and my 8 yr. old, who is the only one home at present to get other ideas/thoughts on it from, seems to think it is a climbing device, so yeah, no help there.

Civil suits for damages are very uncommon compared to USA, mostly because the costs are high and the compensation is so low it's almost funny if the damage is injuries or death. Lose an arm, and you'll, maybe, get $2000, and it will cost you at least five times that to feed your lawyer throughout the case.

It's a bell tower. The house used to be a church (and a café), and that's where the bell was. They took the bell with them, so there is no bell in it anymore. It's also magnetic to plastic, at least it seems like it when playing the second basket on the frisbee golf, as it tends to attract discs.

Supposedly, when the Tucker was beginning production, Preston Tucker wanted to install seatbelts. The story goes that his legal & advertising teams talked him out of it because people would percieve the car to be unsafe. If it WAS safe, the reasoning went, why would it need seatbelts?
