Comment: I've heard many times that the pipe organ in the Haunted Mansion
at Disneyland is the very same from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Is this true? Or is this just another one of those "fun facts" that has no truth to it? |

Doombuggies.com does state that the Disneyland Haunted Mansion is the movie prop and that replicas were made from the original. There are also photographs of the organ in the film and the ride.

The organ console is the same as used in 20K but the pipes & decorations are different, probably because they'd had the 20K organ on display for years and a lot of people would have recognised it if it wasn't changed around.
There's a pretty comprehensive article about it here (scroll down to the 2nd article). |

Haunted Mansion Organ, Wow did I read that one wrong. We went on the ride last February and while it was really fun, it wasn't as fun as the headline I misread was implying..

Oh, I love Doombuggies. The Haunted Mansion is my favorite ride in the park, and a couple of weeks ago I finally got to ride the Disneyland version for the first time.
On the same trip, I visited a Disney outlet store. They had stacks of Haunted Mansion figurines. Being the obsessed fan I am, I immediately started digging to see if they had one particular figure (my boyfriend, being awesome, had already grabbed one of each of the three hitchhiking ghosts for me). Sales guy sees us and comes over, telling us they had marked the figures down lower than the current sticker price and that they're kind of picked over because there's one figure that everyone seems to be looking for but he can't remember the name, to which I ask, "Hatbox ghost?" I don't think he was aware of what all the fuss was about. They were apparently sold out of the poor elusive Hatbox, but I got the rest of the set. |

The first time I rode the Haunted Mansion (that I remember anyway, the time when I was a toddler didn't count) I was disappointed they didn't go much into the story of the bride in the attic the way I remembered from the Little Golden Book and record I listened to often as a kid.
After reading all the stuff on the site I see they once intended for there to be a more cohesive story to the ride which is reflected in that record, but they decided to go a different way. I think it was a real missed opportunity myself. The allure of ghost stories is the stories of the people who became ghosts, not the random related visuals. This is from someone who was fascinated by ghost stories since she was very young. Still love the ride but I just imagine how much better a real story could make it. |

Okay, Astra, I give up. What is the deal with Hatbox Ghost (whoever that is)?

Quote:
Doombuggies page (scroll down) He's a character from the original ride, a ghost holding a hatbox. His head was supposed to disappear and reappear within the box, but the special effects didn't work quite right, so the character was removed from the ride shortly after it opened. His short existence made him the subject of rumors, legends, and speculation regarding the story that the ride was supposedly meant to tell. Now he's sort of a mascot for fans of the ride and within the past few years Disney has started to make use of his image again. I can't wait to see what Guillermo del Toro plans to do with him
