Which of the 27 member states are not under the control of the European Union? Or does he mean that 10 nations that are not member states aare controlled? Which ones? And why not more? The EU is the world's biggest importer of goods and services (pdf) and should economically control more than 10 nations.

Many American Evangelical Protestants believe that the EU is a revival of the Roman Empire and the number 10 is important to them because they can tie it to a biblical passage. So, when Greece became the 10th EU member state they were ecstatic.

However, since the EU didn't stay at 10 members they've had to engage in bit of creative math. This site, for instance, speaks of an "original 10," implying the subsequent 17 don't really count. This site also claims the other 17 don't really count.

Other sites, like this one, claim political upheavals could reduce the number back to 10. This site, on the other hand, argues that they will combine into 10. I've also had it argued to me due to history that many now separate countries should be counted as one. Since Henry V declared himself king of France, for example, you could combine France and the UK as one nation this way. (You have to ignore the actions of a certain teenage girl. )

Exactly. This "connecting of the dots" of current events with the Bible in general and the Book of Revelation in particular has been going on for a long time. When I was in high school during the 70s I was "encouraged" (I need a stronger term but can't think of it) by the Campus Crusade for Christ kids to read Hal Lindsey's 1970 book The Late, Great Planet Earth, which predicted an EU run by the Antichrist by the 80s and Armageddon shortly afterwords.

Obviously, Mr. Lindsey and others like him have had to modify those predictions to reflect changing events. Also, I find it amusing that despite their claims of being strict biblical literalists their interpretations of the Book of Revelation, for example, are anything but literal.

The new logo (of 2011) has a star, alright. A star that has been there since 1987 at least (see here or here). But where is the crescent supposed to be? And how are they supposed to have included something new at all, when all they did is getting rid of the outer rim of the logo they used before?
