Icon204 No more hot water for clothes washing

Comment: This information is for those who use hot water any where in the
process of washing their clothes. If this is not you, please disregard
this note.

ALL new washing machines are now programmed to eliminate the use of hot
water in all phases of all wash cycles of the new machines. The warmest
water heat you will get would be around 69 degrees; unless of course your
machine is located outside in the middle of a desert. You may be able to
reach a higher temperature in that local.

This new energy and nanny saving feature is thanks to our ever vigilant
federal government; also known as President O, Bummer.

So I would counsel those patriots who love white, clean smelling clothes
to take good care of their present washing machines and if you plan on
moving take it with you.

This is merely a public service message and all positive comments (anti
O'Bummer ones) are welcome. Any others can be shared with liberal
friends. I would suggest that you discuss the topic with them down wind.

I wash almost everything in cold water. Things get just as clean and I save money.

Uh, yeah.
If this was the case, wouldn't it have made the news? I'd like to think that one of us would've heard it somewhere.

I also wash everything in cold water. Also, how could a washing machine eliminate the use of hot water? They get hooked up to the hot water heater, right? So I guess you could make a washing machine that only has one connection and force people to use the hot or the cold to hook it up, but it's not like the machine itself heats up the water.

I can't wait for the list of things President Obama accomplished during his presidency to be published. It hasn't even been three years and already the list is HUGE!

In the same meeting in which he personally decreed the future maximum water temperature for washing machines, Obama also ordered that the decree be kept secret.

He's a hands-on kinda guy.

But not with laundry. He has illegal immigrants do that, in machines that only use cold water.

I switched to washing almost entirely in cold water after hearing a story on NPR about saving energy that way. I haven't seen any difference.

I should probably move to doing everything in cold water, but somethings just seem like they need hot water.

I do wash sheets and towels in hot water. I use a the same bath towel, or set of sheets, for a week at a time.

Perhaps this is what the OP is referencing?

http://www.consumerenergycenter.org/...s/washers.html

Quote:
ENERGY STAR clothes washers come in both front-loading and top-loading models. Both designs use less water to get clothes thoroughly clean. These machines use sensors to match the hot water needs to the load, preventing energy waste. To reduce water consumption, top-loading machines spray clothes with repeated high-pressure rinses to remove soap residues rather than soaking them in a full tub of rinse water.

Yes, that's how it works for me as well. Linens, towels, and underthings, including socks, get warm water.

I wash most things in cold water. Some stuff I do wash in hot water (laundry for the rats mostly). But here our "cold" water in the summer is often over 80 degrees, and we're not exactly outside in the middle of a desert. It's kind of annoying actually, sometimes you want a cold shower in the summer and here it's just not happening!

The only loads that get hot water in our house is when J does a load of whites with bleach.

I've not noticed any issue.

Save the nannies. Use Cold Water Tide.

I also like the fact that they equate patriotism with washing in hot water.

Yeah, he has a big warehouse where he keeps all that stuff, and the Ark of the Covenant. He's the only one who has a key.

Hmmm, I wash dark clothes in cold water, and whites in warm water. Am I only half a patriot?

We stopped using hot water completely, because
a) my wife likes to do laundry in the mornings, and if she runs a load with hot water, we don;t have any for the bath
b) the clothes come out fine

69 degrees in the summer would require a chilling system on our water supply.

But, yeah, I don't wash in anything but cold anymore anyway.
