By this point in history, everyone should have a reasonably strong grasp of the basics: Don't TYPE IN ALL CAPS, don't forward chain e-mails without checking Snopes, and don't leave your ringer on in a movie theater. When you are out in public with another person or persons, that is who you should be talking to. A short call to someone else to convey or request information is okay. Ignoring your companions for long periods of time to chat with people who aren't present is not.
This is true even if the not-present person is the one calling you. "Thanks for calling. It's great to hear [bit of news caller couldn't wait to share]. I'd love to hear more about it, but I'm having lunch with Canuckistan right now. Can I call you when I get home?" Nonny |
