And why would they be photo-shopped instead of staged?

I don't know about France, but here in Canada, AIDS in French is spelled SIDA.

If you read the fine print at the bottom, it says "sida". I don't know why they spelled it "AIDES" in the other place, though.

Oh, and these are extremely creepy.

They tried, but the giant insects demanded too much money.

My resolution was set that I could not see the fine print, not that I read it anyway

Something that the Swedish International Development Agency once noticed when working in latin speaking countries. The aides wondered at first why people kept staring at their t-shirts with the agency's logo printed on.

Irrelevant and pedantic nitpick: spiders and scorpions are arachnids, not insects.

Exactly - the insects wanted too much money, so they had to use arachnids.

Those arachnids will shag anybody - no wonder they have AIDS.

They are either fake or they were horribly cruel to the scorpion. Either its legs are broken so the knees bend the wrong way (curl around its own back), or the tail has been broken so it curls around underneath it.

The second is creepy. The first one has me swearing off sex for the rest of my LIFE!!!11!!!ELEVENTY-ONE!!!

It kind of irritates me that they are maligning arachnids by associating them with AIDS. I know it's just supposed to be the gross-out factor of making love with something most people find repulsive, but tarantulas have nothing to do with HIV.

I'm pretty sure these are real.

I came across them when I was looking for an ad for a psychology assignment and browsing through some ad collection site (apparently it's won an award at some point.) I remember there was a lot of discussion in the forums of the site about whether it is appropriate to depict someone as a spider or a scorpion just because they have HIV - assuming that they aren't deliberately infecting people, of course.

If you give me a few hours I'll try to find it.

AIDES is the name of the health organization that educates about SIDA.

No, no! You all got it wrong. They wanted arachnids, but they demanded too much money. So they went with cheaper illegal insects, but just before the shoot, they were raided, so they went with CGI versions.

The level of explicitness isn't too far above what you might see in ads on the Metro now and then, so I'm inclined to believe they're real. They're not currently posted in public anywhere, though.
