Neener, Neener 'Lock-bumping' videos spark concern

Quote:
How did the lock-bumping hysteria spread locally, then? Some trace it back to the weekly crime tips that some police departments send out to neighborhood Internet groups. Lt. James Meeks of the OPD confirmed via e-mail that the lock-bumping story was something he culled from the Internet and placed in his weekly newsletter. To put the accuracy of such Internet information into context, though, Meeks also posted a crime tip a few weeks ago that burglars were luring women from their homes by playing a recording of a crying baby. That "crying baby" lure was exposed as an urban legend on the Web site Snopes.com over four years ago.
