It almost qualifies for Snopes spotting as the article includes the line:

OK, someone has to do it, it might as well be me.
I say it's a fox with mange.

"A rancher from the South Texas town of Cuero is telling a chupacabra tale and she say she has the evidence in her freezer. "
Because if I had a fox with mange that died on my property, I'd sure as hell keep it with the fresh fruit, pecans, and vegetables I'd taken time to put up. Yeah. Is this not a repeat of a story from three or four years ago? |

Sort of.
The one you are thinking of was where the rancher SHOT a "chupacabra" and sent samples off for DNA testing... Funny how we never heard back from that. The animal there DID look EXACTLY like this one though -Rogue |

Poor fox.
It must suck to die from severe mange then have your head cut of by a lunatic. |

rogue 74656:
The story of the rancher who shot what he thought was a chupacabra lived in Nicaragua. The story was related on a National Geographic Channel program which is part of a series entitled "Is It Real?" This show was "Is It Real: Chupacabra? The DNA tests revealed that the animal the rancher shot was actually a dog. Yes, Canis familiaris was its scientific name. B. A. Rainey |

I ought to move to Texas and wait for a poor, emaciated dog with mange to die on my property. I'd be rich.
Regardless, can anyone point me to how the whole Chupacabra myth originated? I'm relatively certain it started in Mexico, but what in the world is the story behind it? |

Mange, mange on the range,
Where the fox and the coyote play, Where seldom is heard a definitive word, And the folks are not brilliant all day. |

The results are in: The ugly, big-eared animal found this summer in southern Texas is not the mythical, bloodsucking chupacabra. It's just a plain old coyote.

Now we've got one running around here in Albuquerque. It's over in the area where I like to take nature walks.
http://www.krqe.com/Global/story.asp?S=7334863 I got a picture of it, or a very similar beast, a few weeks ago. The one I saw had short fur and was extremely thin but was definately a coyote. |

The legend of the chupacabra gained new life as two DeWitt County sheriff's deputies spotted what they said they believe is the mythical creature.
