Cute... but fake.

Unless the two people are midgets and the horse is a Shetland pony. Although I'd never know without finding the original is I'd say that the dog was already in the photo and the manipulator has simply enlarged him.

The shadow for the dog is out of proportion... assuming I've accurately judged the shadows of the people. The shadow should be roughly 2/3rds the height of the object (based on the people) but the dog's shadow is barely half.

He's still a big pooch (looks like a neopolitan mastiff) but not that big.

I'd say its more likely the dog was once anohter horse and somebody cut and replaced it.. Two people walking back from riding.. Makes sense..

It's an altered photo of a Neo. They are huge dogs, but not that large. AKC standard is: Dogs: 26 to 31 inches, Bitches: 24 to 29 inches. Average weight of mature Dogs: 150 pounds; Bitches: 110 pounds; but greater weight is usual and preferable as long as correct proportion and function are maintained.

The horse looks like a welsh pony (Section B).

Well, the horse isn't saddled. Also, you'll note that the horse has thin leather reins while the man is holding something that far more closely resembles a dog leash.

Also, the shadow on the ground for the dog looks wrong for a horse. It does match the dog but is just too small. Hence my suspicion that the dog in that photo is the dog in the original, just manipulated to be larger in size.

We were nearly thinking of getting a neo mastiff. I love dogs with big jowls and that are also big in size as well (you don't get much bigger than a neo).

The SLOBBER! AiEEEEE!

They are cool dogs, though. I love the old-style mastiffs, like neos and dogue de bourdeaux.

Have you ever read any of the Burke novels by Vassch?

Burke's dog, Pansy, is a Neo.

Burke novels by Vassch? *googles* Oh... Vachss, right?

Funny, you know I haven't read any but I checked Amazon and I recognise the coverart. I have at some point held Strega in my hands but wasn't persuaded to purchase it. Perhaps Pansy was calling out to me

I need a new book, any particular Vachss you'd recommend?

Yeah. I can't remember how to spell anyone's name.

Sacrifice and Strega were the ones I first read. Personally, I prefer sacrifice.

Here's the thing, though. The Burke novels are very much so nouveau noir. If you don't like that genre, you'll hate 'em. Very atmospheric, moody, etc., but with a more modern sensibility.

OK, I KNOW bitches is the correct term for a female dog. But, why can I NOT get past the image of Snoop Dog saying pretty much the exact same line is reference to a Girls Gone Wild video??

I've read the Burke books and I love Pansy, especially the dog's name! You'd expect to see a little lapdog named Pansy but not a huge mastiff.

Vachss' writing is a little over the top but still makes for an interesting read.

And she is sorely missed.

Andrew Vachss is one of my top five authors.

Ryda, I think the horse is an Arabian. It seems a little tall and fine bodied for a Welsh pony. IMHO Also note the nostrils and ears the skin is black.

I'm gonna have to with Arabian also. I'm going by the shape of the head, though. I guess it could be a Welara, also, though. (A Welsh-Arabian cross.)

First guess was arabian, but it seems small (and I know, arabians are small in comparison to many other horses.) perhaps they did a bit of photoshopping on that, too.

Although, the section Bs have really refined heads.

But, yeah, it could be a really small arabian or a cross. BTW, those Welara's are nice looking ponies!

Compared to the Arab cross I had, that horse is about the same size. (My girl was half Arab, half Saddlebred and only 14.2 hands.)

Looking more at it, though, I'm going to with a Welara.

Dog

This photo now has text accompanying it:

------------------------------------

OKAY DOG PEOPLE! HERE'S ONE FOR YOU! I THINK THEY USED HIM AS THE MODEL FOR THE 3 HEADED DOG IN ONE OF THE HARRY POTTER MOVIES!

Just had to share this. Check the picture!

Hercules: The World's Biggest Dog Ever According to Guinness World Records
Hercules was recently awarded the honorable distinction of Worlds Biggest
Dog by Guinness World Records. Hercules is an English Mastiff and who has a
38 inch neck and weighs 282 pounds.

With "paws the size of softballs" (reports the Boston Herald), the
three-year-old monster is far larger and heavier than his breed's standard
200lb. limit. Hercules owner Mr. Flynn says that Hercules weight is natural
and not induced by a bizarre diet: "I fed him normal food and he just
"grew"... and grew. and grew. and grew.

Kell: Slightly Smaller, But the World's Heaviest Dog

Hercules' sheer volume may have won him the Largest Dog world record, but
the Heaviest Dog title still rests with Kell who weighed in at 286 pounds in
August of 1999. This English Mastiff, however, only has a 32-inch neck - far
less than Hercules' 38-incher. Think about that for a second though - 32 inches
is a standard waist size for a man!

Proud owner Tom Scott said Kell is two years old and is expected to
continue to grow for the next two years. Kell needs to be fed 100lb of beef
every week, and drinks gallons of goats' milk to stay healthy...

I think it's funny that they mention Harry Potter in the text since Fang (in the movies) is a Neapolitan Mastiff, yet they talk about Fluffy(the three headed dog) who looks more like a Staffordshire Terrier (yet drools more like a Neo! )
They also got the breed completely wrong in the text, which makes it even more obvious that the text was just copied from some unrelated website. That Neo is not even close to an English Mastiff.
