D'oh! Blondi

Comment: The attached photo came with an email which read:

Quote:
Dog of Saddam executed
Iraq: Shortly after the execution of the dictator Saddam Hussein, his
dog Blondi followed the same fate to the gallows. Contrary to Saddam,
Blondi's execution was broadcast live in full length. Some minor
complications arose, which dragged out the death struggle to
unbearable lengths. Animal activist group PETA has filed a formal
complaint to the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.
(In Iraq it is customary that dogs follow their masters into the afterlife)
Seen on http://www.alarabiya.net/
I'm pretty sure this is a fake story since I can't find any mention of
this anywhere else online. Adding to my suspicion is the fact that
Hitler's dog was named Blondi.

Any truth to this?

The dog looks tethered, and is certainly not "hanging." It looks uncomfortably tied up, though.

A Google image search for "hanging dog" will bring that picture up on the first page. Unfortunately the site it comes from (www.dogsdeservebetter.com) doesn't appear to be working.

It would be helpful if someone could translate the text on the screen.

Well, the website the picture is from is working now. The picture in question is on this page. There are some disturbing images on the page though, so dog-lovers beware. There's a date on the picture which is from 1992.

Tsk, Tsk FAKE

even though the photo is heartbreaking i have to call b.s on the saddam hussein thing. I would be surprised if he even had a dog, frankly, since a lot of old school muslims dislike dogs as a rule. (not that saddam is a good example of a muslim)

also, hitler's dog was called blondie. i think someone made it up and thought itd be great to cause a stir.

There's this article (from 2004) about a US soldier who adopted a dog that supposedly belonged to Saddam Hussein, so he may have owned dogs. That story is the OP seems to be BS though.

That may add some validity to this though. At least in one Discover/TLC biography/history of Hussein, it discussed that he had a strong fascination/admiration of Hittler.

Other then that, not much to add.

I really could care less if this is true. What I want to know is what on earth could a dog do that would warrant such treatment, regardless of who their owners are/were.

well...as it states in the OP, apparently "in Iraq it is customary for dogs to follow their masters into the afterlife." what? Ancient Egypt anyone? So its not anything the dog "did". but in any case why am i posting? the whole thing seems pretty off.
