Default Smith & Wesson mailbox

Comment: Received these photos in an e-mail with caption "coolest mailbox
in Oklahoma." Looks fake to me.

There is another gun mailbox in a news story I found while googling, so I guess it could be real. Story here.

More gun mailboxes.

Mailbox #1

Mailbox #2

ETA: Here's the story of a guy who made one of the mailboxes.

I refuse to understand how a gun-shaped mailbox could be considered "cool".

That's not very nice toward the mailman, is it?

That was my thought. It seems rather rude and nasty, and certainly not at all funny, to point a giant simulated weapon at the person who is, after all, providing you a service.

Do you think it's a "going postal" joke?

Given what I found in the googling, I think it's a "gun rights" statement.

D'oh!

Of course; the mailman is an agent of the gubmint, so it makes perfect sense to threaten to shoot him for bringing you your mail. For 45c.

Not just any gubmint agent, the gubmint agent that is bringing us the census and you know what that means.

Jackbooted thugs, every last one of them.

I didn't mind so much the one in Avril's last link, mainly because the mailbox itself was not gun-shaped -- there was a normal mailbox extending from a gun-shaped base.

I think they should expand on this idea a little. Turn the gun to point at the house, and fashion it into a contraption that will fire the mail right to the door.

Now, that would be cool. Although a bit unsafe

Meh, I think that's reading too much into it. There's a guy near my Mom that has one shaped like a hammer. Does that mean he wants to attack the mail carrier with a hammer? Sometimes an interesting custom made mailbox is ... just a custom made mailbox.

I like it. Then again, I like the looks and history of weapons. I collect Shrek and TinkerBell stuff. If I could get a mailbox in their form I would. Maybe the guy collects gun memorabilia.

I don't actually think that these people want to shoot the mailman, or that they're making jokes about "going postal" or "jackbooted thugs" (that was my joke). I don't think that they're deliberately being rude. But IMO, the result of their actions is tacky.

And approaching the peen end of a hammer isn't really the same as approaching the barrel of a gun.

ETA: To further clarify, I don't think the mailbox in this link is rude. But I do think the OP box is.

Not that it matters but it's a claw hammer. I've seen some cool mailboxes around. Up the road from us is one that someone made out of a very old motorcycle. I know there's a pic online of it but I'm just not finding it right now.

If you used a tank instead, and left the breach open and locked the hatches properly, you'd probably have the safest mailbox in the world, not to mention that it would have a pretty high capacity.
