Wow, that's racist and inappropriate.

And now I'm doubly disappointed, because I totally want to see what they have for $1.00.

We have a "Pho King" restaurant in the South Bay. I'm immature enough to giggle on the inside every time I pass.

I've seen a Ho Lee Fook restaurant as well.

It's only racist if someone else does it. One can play with stereotypes regarding one's own race without being racist (as long as those stereotypes are not that it's better than other races, because then it becomes racist again).

For example, I've seen a Thai food place where they had replaced all the 'R's on the menu with 'L's. When a Thai does it, it's just a bit of harmless selfdeprecating humour, but if someone else does it, it's racism.

Cantonese:

黄 福 興 書
Wong Fuk Hing Syu (= book)

The first three all seem to be reasonable names too.

(from here, and my book of Chinese characters)

It has always been my experience that the Chinese immigrants (and their children) have had a great sense of humour about themselves, so perhaps the shop owner is having a laugh?

The shop is in Hong Kong so they probably aren't "immigrants"...

I know, I deserve the fish. I've met so many Chinese immigrants that trying to generalize them would be ridiculous - that might not be the case for you.
