'Lover Boy' video game, was it real?

Some years ago in Perth there were two newspapers, the one that didn't survive was called the Daily Mail, it had a news summary page just after the TV guide (as I remember it).

Anyway some time in the 1980's this section had a story that claimed that there existed a video console (think Space Invaders) called 'Lover Boy', which of course only existed in Japan because it had been banned everywhere else.

Supposedly you guided a naked man around a maze avoiding a dog and a policeman while trying to catch women, if the player succeeded the words "Help! Help!" appeared on the screen followed by a female name.

This got you to part two, which was a (8-bit resolution?) player controlled sexual assault. Then you went back to the maze....

This is pretty much from memory, but as you might guess I've asked this one of a lot of people over the years, was this real, or was this just some newspaper hacks idea of a sick joke....

Many sexually themed games have been released. I recall one that someone had at work many years ago. It was basically a picture of a near naked woman, and you had to 'stroke' various parts of her with the mouse in the right order to increase her level of arousal, as indicated by a progress bar. Once you got the bar to the top you had won.

I'd guess they thought Gigolo was a safer word than prostitute, street walker, or whore. Maybe if your kids find it in your closet they won't know what it means.

Or, that little city is made up entirely of bed-ridden gigolos and this one woman is in for an expensive, and exhausting, evening.

While I guessed they weren't the same game, I posted the link to show that there were adult games back in the vintage console days - just not very well known.

Reminds me of something my Dad once had on his computer, it was called Animate, it wasn't simulated nbsfk, but rather a pop-up that bought up a picture of a naked woman with jiggling breasts (Which was pretty much my reaction when I triggered it...)

That's kinda different than a game in which the point is sucessful sexual assault.

I have a couple of adult Atari 2600 games:

Bachellor Party & Bachellorette Party (same game but opposite gender), both pretty tame.

Custer's Revenge, wherein you have to rape a nude Indian maiden tied to a cactus while dodging arrows. That was the whole point...the longer you rape her, the more points you get. Custer's schlong is quite prominent.

Beat 'em and Eat 'em: Think Activision's Kaboom, but with a woman trying to catch semen from a naked dude overhead (again, with a very prominent schlong).

I do remember reading somewhere a while back that there were a lot of bootleg NES games being made back in the day and a lot of them were of adult nature. I remember a site that showed screenshots of a game called "Strip Poker." Of course Nintendo didn't put their seal on any of these games nor were they sold in any store. I think you could just buy them on the street.

If this was a real title I am horrified- but sadly it will not surprise me if it turns out to be true.

My friend's dad had this little gem: X-Man. It wasn't offensive due to sexual assault on women- it was just plain silly. Guiding a man through a maze while a giant crab tries to grab his over-exaggerated penis so he can have sex with the woman in different positions? It made us giggle when I was 12, and still does honestly.

I believe it's a myth, as there are no ROM dumps for it, no flyers, no cabinet photos, no marquees, no hardware specifications, no screenshots, no nothing known to the emulation society. Given that the only undumped games now are either games with very tough protection (usually newer, and even these get cracked and dumped at an amazing rate) or very odd games (prototypes and games of which only handfuls were made, and once again, these get located and dumped at an amazing rate), I find it very unlikely that a real game would be that well known, yet completely undocumented. I think it's a rumour, then people claim to have seen it, and we have an urban legend going.

Not even the name of the company (Global Corporation) comes up with any other games, which further undermines the idea.

I think we have the arcade equivalent of the 80's video scare rumour about snuff movies here.

Btw, there is nothing dodgy about Raine, it's a respected emulator, although with a greater focus on playability than MAME which focus on accuracy.

It may just be a scare story myth, but you wonder just how it got started, though the pornographic Atari 2600 stuff could be the origin...

Then again the idea that it was a prototype does have some attraction...

Sorry I was not clear. I didn't mean to imply the raine site was dodgy, just that the concept of emulation and ROM images in particular is of dubious legality - depending on your jusisdiction.
