Comment: I was just reading your mis-translations, and was reminded of a
story that was told to me by a tour guide at the Tuborg brewery in Denmark. My memory is little foggy, because it was back in 1978 when I was there, but he told us that when they first marketed a beer in India, the label had a picture of an elephant on it. Sales were terrible until it was learned that one elephant was bad luck ,so the label was changed to show 2 elephants. Sales then improved. I may have the details mixed up...maybe it was originally 2 elephants, and they changed it to one, but you get the idea. |

Could there be some confusion with Carlsberg, another Danish brewer? They produce something called Elephant Beer.
ETA: While most lables seem to have one elephant, I found this one which has two. Its name (and this image) comes from the Elephant Gate at the Carlsberg brewery in Copenhagen. Last edited by Joostik; 21 March 2007 at 11:53 PM. Reason: To Add. |

More importantly, why oh why did they stop with the classic Tuborg can design?!?!? It's sacrilege! Heresy! Blasphemy! Burn them!
"Du, Perikles, hvornær smager en Tuborg bedst?" "-Hvergang!" I've been looking all over the internet for that image, without success. |

Very strange. They don't even sell it as a poster at the Storm P museum in Copenhagen.
It's hvornår.

According to the Carlsberg Company website*, neither Tuborg nor Elephant (nor any other brand of Carlsberg beer) is brewed or marketed in India. I therefore doubt the claim in the OP, even if it could be true for Sri Lanka, where there is a Carlsberg-owned brewery.
Troberg, do you mean this design? ![]() Don Enrico *Click on World Finder (upper left corner), than chose Asia.

No, that's another one.
It could have happened in Thailand where Carlsberg have interests in a beer called Chang (meaning elephant in Thai).
