Theme Icon Crazy Canadian ice fishing

Comment: Maybe trick photography (I hope so) because to see what this
father and son did sitting underneath an ice hole on a frozen lake is pure
insanity. Even if they had a rope and oxygen tanks its still extremely
dangerous. True? or not True?

Both of them climbed in, separately, while the camera was off the hole, and immediately got out when the camera focused on the hole. Still exceptionally stupid.

I think you'd have heard it, and the first guy definitely came from under the ice. I'd say it's more likely that there's a second hole about two feet to the left and they got in that one and out of the one you can see.

Sounds very plausible to me.

Not that stupid, it's not that uncommon for people to swim in the winter. I wouldn't do it, and most people wouldn't, but winter swimming is still quite popular. As long as there is no current and you get into the heat again fairly quick, it's perfectly safe.

Heck, the Finns do it all the time.

Not swimming in the winter, swimming under the ice. Even the strongest swimmer can bump their head and get disoriented. Do you realize how many people have died because they have gotten stuck under ice and could not find their way out?

They don't seem quite as stupid as these two, to me:

Two men arrested after driving car down frozen canal

Complete with a great photograph... (which might well turn up here in Fauxtography itself sometime, perhaps).

But they don't seem as stupid as the man I read about the other day. What happened was 1) He thought it was a good idea to take tour in his car on the ice on a lake. It wasn't. 2) His car got stuck in a hole in the ice. Fortunately the water was very shallow. 3) He calls for assistance but decides he could get his car back onto land himself. 4) When the towing car arrives there is not only his car stuck in the ice but also the front loader he had borrowed at his work place.

Well, perhaps he thought it was shallow enough to be able to drive on the bottom? At least my back loader has the driver at least 1.5 m above ground, and both exhaust and intake are "snorkels" about 2.5m or more high.

Possibly, maybe even probably given the intention of the video. However, some people are really like that.

Yeah, they seem perfectly normal to me. Other than swimming under the ice.

Yeah, there's definitely a second hole off camera. You can hear water splash before each of them emerges.
