Yow! Sex-toy study at Duke raises eyebrows

A campus religious leader is unhappy about a study at Duke University that invites female students to attend parties where they can buy sex toys.

Is that really what he's concerned about? That seems a little odd to me that he's concerned about the study not promoting relationships. Because I think studies aren't supposed to do such things.

Why would girls be at school, except to meet a good man to take care of them?

Naturally, working on their MRS degree!

I wish I lived closer to Duke. Those parties are F-U-N, and discounts would be awesome!

No doubt he's been studying videos of these parties extensively. You know, in preparation for the mass.

Maybe even buying a few toys, like you said, for, you know, **winkwinknudgenudge** "research."

I thought sex toys were for promoting relationships.

I was gonna say, at the sex toy party I went to I don't think masturbation was discussed at all (which I actually found unfortunate). Everything was exceedingly heteronormative with a focus on using toys with your partner.

Exactly, I always thought the sex toy message was "use this with your partner" skimming over the masturbation/non-standard sexuality elements.

Hmm wonder what he would think about the male sexuality class taught at Berkeley in 2002... It was a bit more 'hands on':

Quote:
Officials on Friday suspended a course on male sexuality amid allegations that students last semester engaged in an orgy, took graphic pictures and watched a student teacher have sex onstage at a gay strip club.
Although to be fair that too was roundly criticized. But I don't think a course such as the one described would even raise an eyebrow.

I feel compelled to mention that the word "eyebrows" is cut off from the title on the main page. My dirty mind, of course, thought of some other body parts that might be raised by a sex-toy study.

Weird, I always got the opposite message. That it's about sexuality and how good it feels to love yourself. Well. If you're a woman--in which case you get scented candles and teddies and bathtubs. If you're a guy with a sex toy you're a disgusting perv, who's probably oppressing women. Stop pleasuring yourself and think about the kittens you're killing.

The one I went to covered the whole range of possibilities. Although the most notable moment of the evening was when the hostess told the group about a product meant to decrease sensation for rear penetration, also worked well to suppress gag reflex when applied to the back of the throat. It was also an interesting grouping of people as it was about 6 mother/adult daughter sets and hosted by a mother/daughter team.

I have never been to a sex toy party. I get my sex toys where all the other fine, upstanding citizens get them, on the internet or the local sex toy emporium!

I've never had a problem going into the store to buy the stuff either.

At the store they even take stuff outta the packaging & put batteries in things that need batteries to make sure they work before you buy them.

Cause, yeah, no give backs in the sex toy store.

Is there at least a demonstrator model to take a road test?

LOL! No, these places have samples of oils and lotions, thought. Uh- not that I've ever been to one, of course!
Back on topic, I don't think studies are for promoting anything but for research. The Rev needs to learn there's a difference between how you want things to be and how they are.
