These days, restoring old photos has become a relatively simple process. Most photo-restoration companies allow customers to upload scanned images so there's no need to part with your photo. We decided to see how easy the process has become by testing four restoration services. We used the same scan of a heavily damaged 1950s portrait, dug out from family stockpiles. It had faded with age and the subject also had extensive damage to the chin and neck, which needed to be re-rendered, as we found out when we spoke with each company.
