Default Improving situational memory

Ok, so I may have made up "situational memory". But I'm not sure what else to call it.

I have a good memory for facts- especially long term. It's probably one of the reasons I've always been a good student. But when it comes to remembering events, it's a different story. I can remember what happened- but it's almost like watching a movie in my head of it happening to someone else. I have a had time remembering what I was feeling, or thinking, and I can't remember the whole experience through my own eyes, if that makes sense.

It makes me sad, as things are happening, to think that I won't really remember it. Then I stop focusing on what's actually happening, because I'm trying so hard to remember it. which of course makes it worse. I've compensated a lot by trying to take pictures and videos of things, but then I miss out on the experience.

Does anyone know any techniques to improve this? Either while things are happening, or maybe some kind of self-hypnosis kind of thing afterwards? Hope this makes sense.
