Shout Sex ed and a trip to Hooters

After a big victory in a youth football game recently, my parents and I took my 11-year-old son to Hooters for lunch. Though this was his first trip to Hooters, he knew from his friends exactly what the restaurant chain is famous for.

As a parenting blogger, I thought it might be fun to craft this experience into a blog post that could attract readers and start a spirited discussion.

When the blog post appeared last month, those with angry reactions were quick to register their disapproval. Moms and dads alike condemned me for exposing my preteen son to women in tank tops and short shorts and said I was encouraging him to view women as sex objects. One person accused me of "bonehead fathering," while another said I was "disgusting" and asked whether I was getting strippers or hookers for his 13th birthday.
