I'm curious about whether the fears stoked by the 2012 "prophecy" will inspire acts of terrorism. There were major fears about the years 2000 and 2001, and there were several incidences of crazy people doing stupid acts of violence because of it. A militia group stockpiled ammo and planned to blow up a propane storage facility; Al-Qaeda plotted to bomb Los Angeles International Airport; and there were a bunch of cults that did dumb things like mass suicide because they were convinced the world would end right around 2000.
And The Onion revealed that terrorists were waiting until 2001 to strike, because the millennium technically didn't begin until 2001. http://www.theonion.com/content/node/31850 A guy in Mexico last month hijacked a plane with a can of juice because he thought 9/9/09 was the day of the devil, only upside-down. What's the likelihood that there will be a noticeable amount of violence in 2012 provoked by worries that there will be a noticeable amount of violence in 2012? I'm guessing there will be some, but that it'll be a lot milder than Y2K. What do you think?
