Read This! Meeting - Tuesday, 3pm. You free?

The best time for a workplace meeting is 3pm on a Tuesday, according to a study. Why?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8314339.stm

(Oh, and for once the comments really are worth reading. Very amusing.)

However, what would you say is the best time for a meeting?

You should know taht you posted this just after 3 pm EDT on Tuesday. (Yes, I know it is almost always the 3 pm hour somewhere, and that is currently is not for Andrew, but still, seeing the title when I did gave me a chuckle.)

Yup.

I do have a recurring conference call on Tuesdays at 3. (Why no, I would never be on snopes during a call. )

4.30pm on a Friday, before a Bank Holiday weekend.

Tuesday is the one day of the week I don't have any meetings.

Tuesday actually is the day I have the most meetings. I do see the point, it's the beginning of the week, but you've given everyone Monday to get a handle on things.

Our team meeting is Tuesdays at 10. I think that's about perfect. We're expected to discuss what we're working on, so we have Monday to go over everything, but the meeting is before we get too far into the week. And 10 is late enough that everyone is in and had coffee and gotten the day started, but not gotten too involved in everything yet.

At 3:00pm is when I hit a lull and I'm ready for a nap. I don't pick back up until about 4:00pm. And 8:00am meetings suck. Curse all of you that live in different time zones.

We work with a lot of people in AZ and CA, so if anything our meetings tend to be later. They also tend to accidentally book meetings during lunch time for use ESTers because they forget the time change. t's even more complicated because AZ doesn't do daylight savings.

I've had to attend meetings with people in India lately. With the time difference being almost axactly 12 hours, the only possible times for those meetings are 8:00am or 8:00pm.

My office operates on true flex-time. Meetings are only allowed between 10:00 & 2:00. No one is required to work on a set schedule, as long as you are in the office from 10 - 2 and put in your 8 hours you are in the clear. It makes sense too, as there is no productive gain for punishing employees for the occasional traffic jam or train breakdown. I personally work 6:30 am to 3:15 pm. I will work through lunch, but I will NOT under any circumstances miss my train home for a meeting.

That's cool. We're theoretically on flex time, but whenever there are meetings we're expected to attend. They're all conference calls though, so we don't necessarily need to be in the office. My co-worker did one of our calls last week while hiking (on a trail in Vernon, actually).

But when lots of people are taking the train(or Boston traffic), you're right, that does make sense. DH often takes an earlier train than necessary to make sure he doesn't miss his class. Like today, when he had a midterm (and he did miss his train home, because of a power failure on the green line). (or

We deal with a lot of people in Europe so we have to have early meetings so they don't have to stay late and that's fine. I'm just a little fuzzy and sometimes cranky in the morning.

Yeah same here. I'm covering my boss's early morning meeting today (phone call, luckily) and I'm pretty sure I fell asleep for a minute or two.

And why is that.. why do WE have to get up EARLY to accommodate the Europeans so their time isn't affected?

I get the honor of hosting a 2 hour call daily at 5:30 am EST so the team members in Brussels and India can join.

I have to host a 2 hour call at 11 PM 3 times a week to meet with the folks in Manilla and Australia.

Which means, 4 hours of sleep in between calls.
Then a 7:30 call with my local team. And then calls all day. I am on the phone 12 hours a day.. which is why i am here so much.

Props to Working from home.

3pm is a good time for me. We have flexible hours. I usually roll in around noonish, some people start leaving around 5, and between about 12 and 2:30 there is the risk that people might be at lunch. So 3pm is really prime time for meeting.

Bah! - that is when you hold the mandatory training on the new admin forms related to the rollout of the new procedural framework for core business processes. Starting with the 47 slide powerpoint presentation prepared by the consultants.

I wonder if it is because we have the European Working Time directive and, judging form people comments over the years, stronger worker's rights?

I think it's more a case of "that only happens to me". My SIL has been working (in her former job) with people from India and the US, and it was always her who had to accomodate the co-workers' business hours, taking conference calls early in the morning or late at night her time.

If you'd ask around in India, people would probably tell you that it is them staying late until the lazy Europeans and Americans get out of bed.
