At the moment I have the router supplied by my ISP connected to my PC, all plugged in and sitting in a corner of the dining room. I would like to have a teeny tiny netbook type machine in the next room, with some speakers, so that I can sit in there and listen to downloads from services like Spotify etc.
My idiot's question is, how do I do this? The router I have was supplied by Tiscali: it says it's a Siemens Gigaset S587 WLAN dsl. What equipment do I need to get a wireless connection on the netbook?

You should have wireless already. Turn on the wireless on the netbook and it should be fine. I'd pick a new channel on the router, for reasons of traffic, and use a WPA key of some kind. A simple passphrase is usually enough.

You don't need any additional equipment, but what operating system is your netbook running?

Here is the instructions for your particular router, it explains what the default settings should be (PDF File):
http://j.mp/19mJrr It's instructions for the laptop side of things are a bit poor though. What netbook do you have?
