Default Presenting Archie and BETTY Andrews?

Some time ago, the world (and even Snopes) was taken aback over the news that Archie would FINALLY make his "choice" between his two longtime loves. Well, it looks like the choice really won't be quite as clear-cut as was thought as Archie chooses Betty this time.

Quote:
Last May the comic world was shocked by the knowledge that perennial adolescent Archie Andrews would marry snooty rich girl Veronica Lodge in Archie #600. The wedding issue was indeed a major hit with sales of #600 in the direct market (54 K) twenty times higher than previous issues, which had been averaging around 2,400. Now comes word that Archie is going to repeat his nuptials—only this time it will be the blonde middle class girl Betty Cooper who will become Mrs. Archie Andrews.

So all Archie needs now is a couple of mirror universes, clones, children from the future and to save the world a few hundred times to join the rest of what has become mainstream comics.

I just heard about this last night. I knew they'd back down somehow since they can't tank their premise by having such a major shift in the status quo.

Banky was right! He *is* trying to get them both into bed!

I'm still rooting for Betty and Veronica to hook up with each other because face it, Archie isn't really much of a prize.

I'd buy that issue.

Let me guess, you're a yuri fanboy? That aside, it would be genuinely shocking and probably the only interesting thing that would ever happen in the Archie universe if Betty and Veronica hooked up with each other.

I don't even know what that means, but I'd still buy that issue....

When Archive married Veronica, Betty ran away crying.

When he marries Betty, I'm guessing Veronica will sabotage the wedding. She'll hire a motorcycle gang to crash the hall and trash the ceremony. That gal knows how to grudge!

Silas (knows how to verb nouns)

P.S. I just learned, quite to my surprise, that "grudge" can also be a verb, and has an history that goes back quite a way indeed. Henry VIII, in one of his better songs, says, "Gruch who lust, but none deny," i.e., "grudge if you want to."

And yet, they were both willing to settle for him ...

Right. I forgot about them. I always thought the principal and Miss Grundy should get together.

Are you kidding? He's been such a jerk for 40 years that he DESERVES to be single forever!! It will only fuel his sociopathy, ending with him donning a fireman's hat and using an axe to murder the entire crew - and THEN having necro-sex with them all.

Now THAT'S an issue _I_ would buy!!

They're not backing down. It was always intended to be an "imaginary story" and is set in the future. This is just showing the other side of the coin.

Actually, I remember seeing a one-panel comic strip that indulged in that very idea. As I recall, Archie was blowing Jughead.

But this implies there was no "choice" at all - the entire thing was billed as "Archie finally chooses one girl!" Not "What would happen depending on the girl Archie chose?"

The former is a clear bait and switch.

You can hardly blame Archie Comics for a independent website article not being accurate. Their press releases were perfectly clear.

No they weren't.

From the beginning, they announced that Archie would "choose" a girl. Eventually, they leaked the cover with Veronica. The preview made it clear that it was a what-if, but that was it. After all the hoopla that Archie "chose" someone, after all the wild sales of the comic...NOW they announce this and render the choice all the more meaningless than it already was.

Oh well, at least he didn't sell his marriage to the devil or anything. I don't know if I could handle "One More Archie".
