Default Any Cirque Du Freak Fans?

It is finally out: http://www.thevampiresassistant.net/

And while it has that harry potterish tone to it (doesn't really take itself too seriously), what do you think of the choice for the characters?

I have to admit, the one who plays Madame Truska was a good choice.

Dh picked the compilation book up for me on a whim. I read it, loved it and wanted more and am trying to find the books for the series now. I really squealed when I saw the commercial on tv, for this. It actually looks good.

The commercial on TV last nite looked very dark. The trailer I saw in the theatre looked goofy & made me angry about the way they take their blood.

Which is it supposed to be? I've not read the books & know zero about the franchise.

There are two factions of Vampires--Vampires and Vampeneze. Vampires use their breath to knock someone unconscious and then make a small incision in their victim, take a bit of blood, heal them, and when they gain consciousness, they don't remember anything.

The vampeneze are more like your traditional vamps--they kill their food.

The premise of the story is a travelling freak show made up of true freaks and one of them is a vampire that meets a young boy (after the boy steals the vampire's trained spider) and turns him into his assistant. So the boy is half human/half vamp.

It's actually a neat little story. Not quite as disney-ish as I make it sound. The series' books are supposed to be kind of dark in the Harry Potter/getting older kind of way. But it isn't meant to be taken totally seriously like other vampire movies.

I read one book in the series, and thought it was pretty good.
I like movies/books/etc. that offer a different twist on the vampire (still don't like Twilight vampires though), so I was glad to hear this was coming out.

I haven't read any of the books. I've been seeing the preview and they're making it look kind of hokey, but if it's a kid's or young adult's series of books that's alright, since I'm sure we'll have enough "kids entertainment for adults" to last a life-time when Where the Wild Things Are comes out. I probably won't bother seeing it in theaters, but might check out the DVD if it gets decent reviews.

I loved the series; it's written for older teens, so it's dark and mature but doesn't have any sex or cursing. That's quite refreshing to read in a vampire series. I'm quite interested in the movie; does anyone know if all eight books are being condensed into one film, or are certain things being left out?

from the preview, it appeard that all the books were condensed. I have the anthology that makes up, I think, 3 of the books plus a manga.. and the preview appeared to have everything I read in it. (okay, after reading the wiki, the book I have is just VA, not an anthology)

however, according to wiki, VA is the second book in the series, and the movie is a comp of the first/second. The third is not in the movie. The wiki synopsis of the movie covers everything I read in my book.

Oh Pattinson is good looking, as are most of the kids in it, but I just didn't dig it. I think the werewolves (or shape shifters) were more interesting than the vamps. Although the vamps seemed to have an interesting backstory, I just didn't dig it overall.

People seem to either love or hate them.
