I just found out
today that DH's medigap policy was cancelled on
August 14th. Yeah, but they kept billing me.
You see I got behind because of my injury and inability to work. I had paid a double premium in July? so I had an 18+ dollar credit. Then I didn't pay until Sept. 21 a double premium minus my credit and the ONLY bill they sent. Sunday I took DH to the ER because he was working on pneumonia (again.) When they tried to bill BCBS they got a message saying he was ineligible. This was the first time I'd had any notion that there was a problem. I had paid the only bill they sent me and had received no notice of cancellation or potential cancellation. I'd gotten some messed up thing that said something about a 215.00 credit that was clearly wrong. It took me and the nice lady on the phone one hour to figure this out and again with no indication that coverage had been terminated.
All I was told was I should have known and paid a triple premium to reinstate him. This would be fine except we were never sent a bill for this or notice to the effect that if we didn't he'd lose coverage...so fing frustrating.
We got behind, but would it have killed them to notify us of what was going on? Now we have to go through the painful, confusing, and time consuming process of getting him enrolled in another medigap policy. BCBS insists they're the best value in the state, but I'm having some trust issues with them right now, so I'm not sure we want to go back to them. Any advice about how to do this? It looks like he has right of coverage or whatever for 63 days from whenever we actually get some sort of documentation that he was dropped. I really hate insurance companies.
