A few weeks ago, my printer worked fine. Then, I had to print something (because, well, otherwise I don't use the printer, right?) and it said my printer wasn't installed. I checked the wires and connections because I'd gotten a new monitor so I figured maybe I knocked something loose when I was plugging that into the computer.
I went through the trouble-shooting part of my printer (HP Officejet 4315 All-in-one) and I updated everything from the website. I took a screen-cap of the error message that I keep getting. Error Message I Googled the problem and tried doing a system restore (as was suggested by some random website) and even that didn't work. The machine itself is still functioning- I can print copies and scan things, but I can't print from my computer. Any help is appreciated and please, feel free to "dumb it down" for me- you cannot offend me, even if you draw instructions with crayons. Thanks.

Go to Start => Control Panel => Administrative Tools => Services
Scroll down the list of Services until you see PRINT SPOOLER. It will most likely stay STOPPED or MANUAL. Click on the PRINT SPOOLER service, right click, and select START. I'm not sure how your spooler might have been turned off, but that's how to turn it back on.

Okay, I did all that and it said "started", but when I clicked to "add printer", it came up again. So, I went back and it wasn't started... so I "started"... and then I went to add a printer...
Like a circle... It won't stay started. Whenever I try to print something or "add printer", it stops itself. I'm about to leave the house for a while (pick up kids), but I'll be back to work on it some more.

Try unplugging the printer first, then restarting the spooler. "printers and faxes" won't show anything if the spooler is stopped, chances are the printer's still there, when the spooler comes up it won't be able to send anything to the printer, (don't plug it back in yet), check the print queues, clear out any jobs, and then plug the printer back in.

Well... Ceej dominated the computer for almost two hours, for a project that she can luckily put on her flash drive.
I've tried it all and it keeps turning itself off. I'll leave it overnight (pain meds time here) and try everything again tomorrow. If I fail (again!), I'll... ask again, I suppose. But thanks for the advice so far. At least I know where the problem is now!

What's happening is probably not that it turns itself off, it's that it crashes. Services crash fairly discretely, so you won't be told.
Check the system log (Start => Control Panel => Administrative Tools => System Log (unsure if that's the English name, but it should be close enough), and there look in the system log. Most likely, it will be a message from Service Control Manager, but not necessarily. Use the time stamp to zero in on the right message. Hopefully, the message will tell you what's going on, or at least be googleable.
