I know there was once a thread where people posted things they remember about a book, movie etc but could not remember the title.
I have one such thing. A friend of mine posted this a while ago on another forum (don't know if she ever found out what it was either). Curious to see if anyone know. To be honest I can't even remember if I asked this very same thing here before! ============================ I am looking for a book I read about 20 years ago.. the trouble is I have no idea what it was called. Maybe someone will recognize it. It was about a construction worker.. just an average single guy who worked hard, was nice to his neighbors, lead an uneventful life. He falls from the top of a skyscraper and lives through it, which catches the attention of the Vatican. They kidnap him and do all sorts of things to him to "test" him (including tying him to a chair and shooting him...which he lives through) because they believe he is the second coming. He doesn't believe it because he sees himself as so ordinary (and this humility is part of why he fits their profile), but he lives through everything. ================ thanks!

Ducky, I HATE you.
I know I read that book (or else, it was one with an almost identical plot). I believe you're looking for "The Second Son" by Charles Sailor.http://www.amazon.com/Second-Son-Cha.../dp/0380455676 |

Looks like a good book! I may have to check it out when I'm done with the stack of unread books in my bookcase.

There's a movie that I saw a long time ago and I've been remembering bits and pieces of it recently, all except the damn title. Here's what I can remember:
The movie starts in the Middle Ages, somewhere in England, during the Black Plague. There's a boy who has visions and one of them tells them they can end the plague (or maybe just protect them from it) if they travel to a magical city and place a cross on the spire of a church. So a group of them set off to do this. Here's the weird part. Somehow they end up in a modern day city (I'm not sure which. Definitely not the US because of accents. UK?) which is the magical city they were looking for and have to find the right church and put the cross on it before sunrise. That's all I have other than random bits: - The cross was made of copper. I think it was made in the modern city but not 100% sure. - One of the boy's visions was a hand slipping off the rung of a ladder. - None of the actors I can remember were huge stars, at least not in the US. I do have one more bit of info but it's a major spoiler. Do we worry about spoilers in these? |

I'd all but forgotten this movie until I saw a similar mask in a Halloween store the other day, but I don't remember details, just a scene. It was a horror movie, from the picture quality it was probably made somewhere between the mid 80s to mid 90s, though possibly as early as the late 70s (it's hard to tell with low-budget movies though, especially when you're only remembering). The killer was a man with a large build who wore a baby/babydoll mask, I think the mask didn't have a chin, so that the man's mouth and chin showed but nothing else. I remember him looking into a woman's window, I think he was holding a knife.
Aside from the mask that could be any of thousands of movies, so hopefully someone remembers the mask.

... on behalf of my housemate.
I'm hoping one of my fellow Snopesters mightbe able to identify this music video based on the very vauge description my housemate gave me. Apparently, the video is centered around a woman who is waiting by herself at an underground station, (could be the London Underground, or any other underground rail service in the western hemisphere...) who is persuded bya creature that resmbles a pile of rags. My housemate was unsure which artist performed this song, but she's fairly certain that they are a "dance" act. So yeah, like I said, a very vauge description, but all suggestions will be gratefully received

BamaRainbow-
THANK YOU! If I could give karma points I would. Friend says that was the exact book. She was quite happy to finally get a name for it after 3 years lol.

OK, I've got one, where I *thought* I knew the title, but I can't find it in a search.
I'm almost certain I was stationed in Germany when I rented this movie, which means I would have seen it about 1990 to 1992. It was one of those movies you rent when you're on the nightshift and there's nobody else to hang out with. Anyhow, I *thought* the movie's title was "Jesse". It was basically a "Let's take Jesus and his pals and put them in the modern era" thing. 'Jesse' was Jesus, I remember Peter was called Pete and I'm pretty sure was portrayed as missing a hand in the movie. A prostitute is implied to be Mary Magdalene, but I don't remember her being called such (I think she was in the movie for all of five minutes). Based off hair and clothing styles, I would guess this movie was made in the mid-80's ('Mary Magdalene's' hair and clothing definitely suggested this--the way-teased big hair and neon colors in a sort of 'Valley Girl Gone Bad' look). The movie is obviously set in America (and further implied when late in the film, the souls of the dead rise from their graves and go to heaven--one of the souls is definitely a Confederate solider from the American Civil War). I vaguely remember two songs from the movie as well--one is being played after Judas/Jude betrayed Jesus/Jesse, the chorus kept going "Thirty pieces of silver" (in a 'rock' style). Another one was after Jesus/Jesse died, and I just remember one line saying, "Jesse, I need you...." (ballad) I did a search trying to find this, but since the title "Jesse" doesn't come up, then I'm presuming I misremembered the title. It had the look of a very, VERY independent film or B-movie (is it a sin to refer to a movie about Jesus as a bad B-movie? ), so maybe that's why IMDB can't find it.I remember this movie primarily because I was thinking that if Jesus hadn't shown up in the time/place he had, the world would have turned out quite differently (for better or for worse, who's to say)--I was bored enough to contemplate if the lack of Jesus 2000 years ago would have possibly meant the American Civil War might not have occured, since certainly a lot of history probably would have gone differently and might not have even *resulted* in a United States. Saw a bit of a movie on the Ion channel this weekend, but had to do other stuff...takes place in 1950s or 1960s New York (or another big US city). An Italian boy around 14 and a black girl are walking around, and they make plans to see a movie the next day. He walks her within a block of her home but can't go any further because the neighborhood is segregated and it's dangerous.

Very glad to help!
I have a long list of movies and such that I'd seen in childhood which I spent years tracking down from vague memories. Snopesters have helped me find some in the past, and I'm always happy to be able to help someone else end their search.

I am in search of a fantasy series involving leprechauns in the North America. The hero was a male college student. The second book in the series involved the main character & his leprechaun companions going to Europe (Scotland was a stop, as the hero learned how to properly pronounce Edinburgh).
They were paperbacks. I read them back in the late '80s or early '90s. I have checked the local library database, the database of the library where I lived during that period, Amazon, and general Google. Sound familiar to anyone?
