Starbucks has entered the instant coffee market, and I decided to try it, being an unashamed consumer of Nescafe's Gourmet Roast. The Italian Roast was good, but I only tried it at the store without cream. Today I tried the milder Colombian, with creamer, and I can't tell much difference between it and my Nescafe.
The Nescafe is also considerably cheaper. For $6.99, I get a container that lasts me about a month. With the Starbucks Via, I pay $2.95 for a three-pack or $9.95 for a dozen. Given that I tend to drink more than one 8 oz. cup a day, that's rather pricy.
I tend to agree with this New York Post article:

While not a "cup of mud," I will only consider purchasing the Italian Roast if I'm traveling, or to keep on hand for a splurge.
