"I've had a long night, and I hate the f***in' Eagles, man!"
"GET THE F*** OUT OF MY CAB!" Anyone have any "classic/great" bands or musical artists that you just can't stand? I got in this discussion the other day at work (for about the umpteenth time), and my co-workers were shocked to learn that when Led Zeppelin comes on the radio, I immediately turn the dial. While I concede their incredible fame and influence on rock music, for me personally... ugh. It's like sandpaper for my ears, I can't stand it. Another example is Lynyrd Skynyrd. This is particularly frustrating, being that here in the South, it seems every other song on the classic rock stations is Skynyrd. Blech... "Freebird" makes me want to suckstart my 9mm. While I love the Beatles, I have a few friends that passionately dislike their music...ditto with the Rolling Stones and the Who (the latter of whom I very much enjoy). Anyone else out there have any "gods of rock" that cause you to immediately turn the dial to NPR?

Oh God every time I admit this I can feel the hatred, but yeah the Beatles. To me the Beatles were nothing more then the Backstreet Boys of their day, a marginally talented band that was heavily promoted, marketed and sold. They could pump out a decent tune, I'll admit Let it Be is quite nice, but the majority of their catalog is schmaltzy crap.
At best the should be a minor footnote in the history of rock music and perhaps a slightly bigger footnote in the history of the music industry. But this huge groundbreaking, generation defining supergroup? I just don't get it.

U sodding 2.
Originally I disliked them because everyone I knew loved them, I can be a bit contrary, and now it is just how so much of the World kiss their arse while the music they produce doesn't seem to have moved on since they started. |

I have to say I can't really get going with the current range of British chart-rock acts. Coldplay, Muse, Kasabian, Bloc Party, Razorlight, Keane - the list goes on.
Thing is, there's nothing especially wrong with this stuff. OK it's a bit mainstream but I was never down with the kids and I never will be. I don't know it all just sounds the same, perhaps it's just the curse of competent mediocrity but either way yo uwon't catch me listening to any of it. |

Elvis. Can't exactly put my finger on it but he just does nothing for me, personally. Then again maybe I just can't relate to the music of someone who died while I was still in nappies.

Two band that I feel like I should like, but don't, are Rush and Boston. Both are quite talented as musicians and songwriters (talking about Boston's early stuff, of course), but their music does nothing for me. Boston's "More Than A Feeling" is the only song of theirs that I can even listen to. Besides that, I'd pretty much rather have the radio off than have their stuff on.

With regard to Rush, I'll see your indifference and raise you absolute disgust. I cannot stand their sound. Can't believe I forgot them in the OP.

I don't understand the fuss about Lou Reed. Or 'Imagine' - in fact I hate that song with a passion.

Rush is pretty uninteresting musically. I don't detest them, but there are thousands of better groups and I can't see the love for them.
Rod Stewart. Has a great voice, but can't pick a decent song to save his life (I'm not counting his Great American Songbook, but his voice isn't made for that sort of song at all). Steve Miller Band (after "Five"). The group first five albums were all very good, but after that, they completely fell apart. Alas, all people remember are his later crap albums. I don't care much for Elvis, though I don't hate him. |

The Grateful Dead. Phish. Ugh; I need to go take a shower - something many of their fans seem to be unfamiliar with.

Not calling any of these bands "great", just going to say that they seem to be highly rated among many people I know, and I can't stand any of them.
Rolling Stones The Ramones Kiss Van Halen Grateful Dead They all sound like rank amateurs to me. Maybe that's the sound they're going for, but I detest them. Van Halen and Kiss in particular I can't take seriously at all - they're like the Archies but louder. AliBaba |

I dive for the dial whenever I hear The Who or Elvis.
Cannot stand any of their songs at all. I have no hate for them personally but I do just hate their music. Led Zep - some I hate some I love. I could die without ever hearing Stairway to Heaven one more time and that would be just fine with me. Also do not like Buddy Holly music. I greatly admire him personally but that whole sound just EHH no.

I could never really get into Pink Floyd. I don't know why. Maybe it was because so many people raved about how freaking good they were and I just never heard it.
Same with Nirvana. I found them interesting for about 10 minutes. I thought Kurt Cobain was a competent lyricist, and not quite up to snuff as a guitarist or singer. I don't think they were the best band of the 1990s. I don't even think they were the best Seattle band of the 1990s. I much prefer Soundgarden. Some bands I used to love I just turn the dial when they come on now due to overexposure. Led Zep, The Who, The Stones and many other fall into this catagory. Mostly because these bands have dozens and dozens of great songs, but classic radio plays like 4 of them EVER.

I don't wish to presume about your personal habits one way or the other but I believe the key to enjoying Pink Floyd is a big fat doobie or some other gently mind altering chemical. I say gently because I don't get the impression it's the music of choice for people on X, judging by the prevailing music of choice at raves.

I don't get the attraction of Freebird. To me it just goes on and on. It sucks as a dance song. We could always get the crowd going with Sweet Home Alabama but Freebird is the kiss of death at a dance. The Doors is another band that I change the station on.

You and me both! With the exception of Who You Are, I cannot stand Pearl Jam! Music to slice to your wrists by. My god, they're awful!
